In his early carrer, Paulo was a trainee at Herzog & de Meuron in 2003/04 and studied under Peter Zumthor at the Accademia di architettura di Mendrisio in 2002/03.
He was the recipient of several scholarships and prizes, among which the Prémios Novos 2015 (best Portuguese architect under-35), the IHRU Prize 2014 (best house renovation in Portugal), the Tavora Prize in 2012 (best research trip, Portugal); the Prize for Social Entrepreneurship in 2009 (The Cass, London Metropolitan University);
