Via Brocchi Elementary School | ATI Project

The new Via Brocchi School in Milan interprets school architecture as a space for learning, social interaction, and community engagement, with strong connections to the urban context and surrounding green spaces.

The school building is organized around a large central agora, the heart of the facility, with twenty classrooms, laboratories, intercyle spaces, and inclusive environments arranged to promote orientation, communication, and a sense of belonging.

The civic center, with an independent entrance, extends the life of the school beyond school hours, hosting cultural, sports, and social activities. The library, auditorium, and multipurpose gym are designed as flexible and shared spaces, supporting a variety of uses and reinforcing the school’s role as a community hub.

The relationship with greenery is a key element of the design: outdoor areas and the accessible roof act as natural extensions of the building, offering fluid circulation, spaces for gathering, play, and learning.

The project adopts a sustainable and innovative approach, with a X-lam timber and steel structure and over 500 photovoltaic panels, designed to ensure high energy efficiency and reduce environmental impact, achieving NZEB (Nearly Zero Energy Building) standards.

Designed as a place for collective life, the new school opens up to the neighborhood, becoming a hub for social interaction and learning. The architecture itself becomes an educational and cultural tool, combining functionality, aesthetics, and sustainability, supporting students and the community in building shared experiences and relationships.
