Nestled in the quiet Haruzim neighborhood of Ramat Gan, this 125-square-meter apartment showcases the thoughtful and intentional design of interior designer Maya Sheinberger. Known for her modern, minimalist approach, Sheinberger was tasked with transforming this newly built space into a functional, beautiful home for a young couple and their child.

“I wanted to create a home that is not only visually striking but also one that truly serves the family’s needs." Sheinberger explains, "Every element has a purpose, from maximizing storage to designing flexible spaces that can evolve as the family grows.”

A New Beginning: From Blueprint to Reality

When the couple first purchased this five-room apartment, it was in its blueprint phase, giving Sheinberger the perfect opportunity to reimagine the layout before construction began. While the original plan was functional, it didn’t fully optimize the space for the family’s day-to-day life. Sheinberger took on the challenge of improving the layout, mainly focusing on the kitchen and living areas to better suit the family's lifestyle.

The redesign aimed to provide ample storage, incorporate a connected playroom for their child, and create an open kitchen with an island for casual family meals. Sheinberger also integrated a concealed laundry area to maintain the clean, minimalist aesthetic while ensuring practicality. The vision was clear: a home that is stylish and where every corner serves a purpose.

Stepping Inside the Space

The apartment makes an immediate impression with its bold blue entrance door, leading into an open and spacious living area. One of the standout features is a striking blue carpentry wall, which stretches across the home's public areas. Far from being just a design statement, this wall is packed with hidden functions, housing storage solutions, a media center, and even a concealed entry to the playroom.

To the left of the entrance is the kitchen, a pristine white space arranged in a U-shape. Sheinberger designed the tall cabinets to house integrated appliances, keeping the look sleek and minimal. The large kitchen island, complete with a narrow cooktop and seating for three, serves as a hub for casual meals and family interaction, connecting seamlessly with the adjacent living area.

The laundry area is cleverly concealed behind doors, allowing for full accessibility while hiding away the appliances and supplies when not in use. The seamless cabinetry continues along the length of the blue carpentry wall, with open niches breaking up the expanse to introduce moments of decor and personalization.

A Home for Living: The Living and Dining Areas

Adjacent to the kitchen is the dining area, which features a modern glass table with black wood and steel legs, paired with contemporary black chairs. A minimalist black light fixture hangs above, offering a simple yet sophisticated touch that complements the bold blue of the carpentry wall.

The living room, an inviting space where the family spends most of their time, is anchored by a large gray sofa with a chaise longue. A mustard-colored armchair and sleek black side tables add pops of color, while a soft, light-gray rug ties the seating area together. The living space also houses a custom-built niche in the carpentry wall, framing a 100-inch television—perfect for movie nights, a key request from the family.

Hidden behind the blue wall is a delightful surprise—a secret door that opens into the playroom. Designed with a LEGO theme, the room is a haven for the couple's child, featuring a climbing wall, LEGO panels, and plenty of storage for toys. Sheinberger’s design ensured the space was fun, functional, and easy to maintain.

Retreating to Private Spaces

The master suite offers a calming retreat, with a monochromatic palette of grays and blacks. The bed is upholstered in charcoal gray and flanked by black bedside tables, while a wall of mirrored wardrobes enhances the sense of space and light. The en-suite bathroom follows the same elegant theme, with a custom black oak veneer vanity and gray-blue glass panels enclosing the shower.

The child’s bedroom is a blend of playfulness and comfort, featuring checkered wallpaper, custom-built storage, and a robot-shaped nightstand, a gift from the child’s grandfather. This room is designed to be both functional and flexible, accommodating the child’s growth over time.

Even the guest bathroom is a study in stylish design, with bold blue terrazzo tiles and black cabinetry that connect the space to the home’s overall color palette.

Overcoming Design Challenges

The apartment’s long, narrow layout presented several design challenges. Initially, a long corridor and inefficient use of space in the living areas created a disjointed flow. Sheinberger tackled this by rethinking the placement of rooms, improving sightlines, and creating an open-plan living space that feels expansive and connected.

One of the most challenging features was the 10-meter-long carpentry wall. Sheinberger meticulously planned every inch to integrate various functions without disrupting the clean, continuous look. From hidden air conditioning units to the playroom door, every element was carefully considered.

A Harmonious Color Palette

The home’s color palette was selected to reflect the family’s energetic yet grounded lifestyle. Whitewashed oak flooring sets a natural, neutral foundation, while the bold blue carpentry wall adds depth and personality. The kitchen’s crisp white contrasts with warmer wood tones, and accents of black and gray throughout the furnishings create a modern, cohesive atmosphere.

A Home That Grows with the Family

This modern family home in Ramat Gan reflects Maya Sheinberger's ability to blend beauty with purpose. From the carefully designed kitchen to the playful hidden playroom, each space is tailored to the family's needs while maintaining a sleek, modern aesthetic. As the designer sums it up, "It’s a space that not only looks good but works effortlessly for the people who live in it. That, to me, is the essence of good design."
