This house located in Catalonia was built in the 1980s and has recently changed owners for the first time. Constructed on a hilly site, the compact house has modestly sized rooms set at various levels that follow the terrain.
The main living space is a split level room with a dramatic high ceiling and with direct access to a covered terrace that looks out over – but does not give access to – the grounds below. At garden level there are various undercroft spaces that aren’t being used.
The renovation opens up these living quarters to the garden by constructing a stair from the main terrace, adding a pool area and redefining the outdoor rooms. Internally, various small, stategic adjustments in layout improve the definition of the rooms, resulting in a more varied set of spaces.

The jury singled out the expressive geometrical and chromatic interplay, shunning any kind of uniformity. Tiles were not only used to clad surfaces, but also to create fixed items of furniture.
