Casa Ros is located in a historic neighborhood in Llíria at the beginning of the ascent to the Monastery of San Miguel. The starting situation is two existing homes, one of them from just 20 years ago and the other from 1900, composed of two floors with a gable roof and some constructions used as a warehouse.

The challenges were several, a very dark 100-year-old house, with some elements in ruins and a significant land inclination, both transversally and longitudinally.

The desires of this family with the acquisition of the historical house were several. The most important one was to enhance the existing large patio that had almost no light in winter and very little ventilation during summer periods.

Carrying out the demolition of the ruined warehouse, both houses and specially the existing patio, gain in openness and ventilation.  Replacing the warehouse, a new south facing terrace is built, providing a small patio to the old house and a covered spot for car parking. On the upper level this roof becomes a gathering place for both houses.

The rehabilitation carried out in the old house preserved the original wooden structure and loadbearing brick walls. New openings were performed on the south façade seeking the sunlight the house originally lacked. This intervention preserves the scars and history of the original home; the brick used in its structure, as well as the cuts in the wood and the different layers of paint exposed on its walls.

The new construction is visibly different from the historical building. Here the distinctive element is the ceramic used on the structure, floors and a singular lattice that filters the transition between the restored and new architecture.
