The perfect balance between classic craftsmanship and contemporary design defines the new Bakery & Pizzeria space in Singapore’s Dairy Farm. The architectural concept, developed by Hot Design Folks, is rooted in the tactile perception of the baking process.
Every element within the 88-square-meter space has been meticulously designed to enhance sensory experiences. A ceiling installation, reminiscent of traditional bread-cooling racks, creates a visual dialogue with the monolithic stone counter below, whose textured surface evokes freshly kneaded dough. Wall sconces shaped like bread molds further reinforce the concept.
“We aimed to capture the magic of artisanal baking, immersing guests in the atmosphere of bread and pizza making,” says Evgenia Lazareva, founder of Hot Design Folks. “It was essential to create a space where the act of cooking becomes an integral part of the gastronomic experience.”
Materials and key elements
The design embraces natural textures. The central counter is crafted from limestone with honed and split surfaces, while the walls feature whitewashed brick and light wood finishes, striking a balance between warmth and refined elegance. A standout feature in the Plank Sourdough pizzeria is the massive wood-fired oven, visible from the street, alongside the brand’s signature rustic wooden boards, which reinforce the authenticity of the concept.
Functionality and atmosphere
A communal table at the heart of the space fosters social interaction and shared dining experiences. A long upholstered bench, covered in fabric reminiscent of flour sacks, enhances the intimate yet dynamic setting. The interior is furnished with premium pieces from Karimoku New Standard, GUBI, Maruni, Pedrali, New Volumes, and HAY, maintaining an air of elegance while preserving a relaxed ambiance.
Technical aspects
The bakery-pizzeria accommodates 48 guests, with 35 indoor seats and 13 on the outdoor terrace. Key structural elements include a suspended acoustic partition made of wood veneer, custom carpentry in pine boards, and Dekton quartz finishes. The concept is further enriched by artistic wall treatments with lime paint and whitewashed brick, creating distinct spatial zones while maintaining a cohesive design language.
