The Loop Garden
The Loop Garden is a public space, landscape architecture, and urban installation project proposed for Osborne Village Green in Winnipeg, Canada. Designed as a multifunctional structure that operates simultaneously as an open-air performance venue, community gathering space, and interactive art installation, the project reimagines the role of urban parks in contemporary cities.


Inspired by the cyclical relationships between nature, energy, and human interaction, the design is organized around a series of interconnected rings that create spaces for performance, recreation, social engagement, and environmental education. Through its integration of landscape, renewable energy systems, public art, and community programming, The Loop Garden proposes a new model for future public spaces.


More than a park structure, the project is conceived as a living social landscape where culture, ecology, and technology coexist.


Urban Context
The project is located within Osborne Village Green, a neighborhood park situated in one of Winnipeg’s most vibrant urban districts.


Surrounded by residential buildings and connected to new cycling infrastructure, the park serves as an important public open space within the community. Existing mature trees, shaded pathways, open grassy clearings, and informal gathering areas provide a strong natural foundation for future public space improvements.


The Loop Garden builds upon these qualities by introducing an interactive landscape installation that activates underutilized areas while preserving the park's ecological character.


The proposal strengthens connections between recreation, culture, and community life while enhancing the park's role as a destination within Osborne Village.


Design Concept
The project is inspired by the symbolic power of the circle.


Throughout history, circular forms have represented continuity, movement, gathering, and renewal. The Loop Garden translates these ideas into a physical environment where interconnected rings organize space, movement, and social interaction.


The rings symbolize the cyclical flow of energy, time, nature, and community life. Rather than functioning as isolated architectural elements, they create an integrated landscape that encourages participation, exploration, and collective experience.


The resulting composition forms a recognizable landmark while maintaining a strong relationship with the surrounding natural environment.


Open-Air Performance Space
At the center of the project is a large circular stage designed to host a wide range of community and cultural activities.


The wooden performance platform can accommodate concerts, theater productions, open-air cinema screenings, public lectures, art exhibitions, and community celebrations. The flexible nature of the stage allows it to support both organized events and spontaneous public use.


The space is also envisioned as a venue for yoga sessions, children's workshops, creative classes, and cultural programming that strengthens social connections within the neighborhood.


By providing a dedicated gathering space within the park, the project expands opportunities for public participation and cultural engagement.


Ring-Based Spatial Organization
Central Gathering Zone
The main stage serves as the social heart of the installation, creating a focal point for public events and community activities.


Seating Rings
Smaller circular elements distributed throughout the site function as seating areas, informal meeting spaces, and sculptural landscape features. These rings encourage visitors to occupy the space in multiple ways while contributing to the project's visual identity.


Directional Rings
Larger ring structures define entry points and movement pathways, guiding visitors through the landscape and creating a memorable arrival experience.


Seasonal Gardens
Integrated planting areas contain pollinator-friendly vegetation and native plant species selected for year-round ecological value. The gardens change throughout the seasons, creating a dynamic visual experience that evolves over time.


Landscape Architecture and Ecology
Landscape design plays a central role in the project.


The ring structures are integrated with planting systems that strengthen biodiversity while enhancing user experience. Native vegetation attracts pollinators, supports local ecosystems, and improves the environmental performance of the site.


The design establishes a strong relationship between built elements and natural systems, allowing architecture and landscape to function as a unified ecological framework.

Artistic Installation and Night Experience

Viewed from above, the ring composition resembles a blooming flower emerging from the landscape. At night, integrated lighting systems transform the installation into an illuminated urban landmark.


Subtle color-changing lighting effects enhance the perception of depth and movement while highlighting the circular geometry of the structure. The resulting visual experience creates a memorable identity for the park and strengthens its presence within the city.
