Astronomic Pole | Studio di architettura Marco Castelletti
Sormano / Italy / 2024
The architecture fits into the natural slope connecting to the existing paths that climb to Mount San Primo. The volume is oriented from south to north with the two main functions of the astronomical observatory and the planetarium, characterized by their respective domes, placed at the ends. The relationship between the building and the landscape is fulfilled in the belvedere terrace placed on the roof from which to admire the panorama of the Prealps by day and the starry sky by night. The construction, above the reinforced concrete basement, was made entirely of wood and covered with vertical larch planks that over time will take on that gray color typical of the aged woods that characterize the existing fences and tree trunks. The building houses on the ground floor a multipurpose room between the planetarium room and the astronomical observatory and in the basement a living room and the dormitories with 25 beds as a hiking refuge.
