Capalbio Barn House

“Conceiving and then creating a building from nothing where there was previously a grassy area was sowing a seed in the ground, waiting for it to germinate, and then watching it grow. The house was born this way, almost spontaneously, like a flower.”

With these words, architect Carola Vannini describes Capalbio Barn House project — a splendid dwelling immersed in the agricultural landscape of Tuscan olive groves.

The house consists of two parallel buildingss, joined by a imposing corridor: a symbolic “bridge” that connects the view of the pool to the one diametrically opposite, overlooking the garden.

The wide openings and large sliding glass windows frame beautiful glimpses of the Mediterranean garden from every room of the house, creating a complete fusion and sharing of the interior spaces with the surrounding nature.

The imposing manufactured stone wall, clad in murogeopietra® in the Ono Degno model, defines and enhances the living room and the bioclimatic greenhouse — a fully glazed space and focal point of the project, where the gradual dematerialisation of volumes unfolds, leading towards the pergola and then the pool.

Even the choice of the Ono Degno model, with variegated shapes and colurs, reflects a desire for nature, spontaneity, and tradition. This sense of tradition is further emphasised by the use of the Over finish, a deliberately generous jointing technique that recreates the rustic charm of ancient walls.

It’s a play of contrasts — between the tones and modernity of the furniture and architectural elements, such as the wooden roof with exposed steel beams, and the oak flooring.

The sensation one feels in this modern “barn,” “born like a flower,” is that the boundary between inside and outside blurs. Landscape and architecture become the protagonists of a perfect balance between nature and design.

"Concepire e poi creare dal nulla un edificio dove prima c’era un prato è stato come gettare un seme nel terreno, attendere che germogliasse e infine vederlo crescere, la casa è nata così, quasi spontaneamente, come un fiore".

Con queste parole l’architetto Carola Vannini racconta il progetto Capalbio Barn House, splendida dimora immersa nel paesaggio agrario degli uliveti toscani. La casa è composta da due edifici paralleli, attraversati da un imponente corridoio, un simbolico “ponte” che collega la vista sulla piscina a quella, diametralmente opposta, sul giardino.

Le ampie aperture e le grandi vetrate scorrevoli incorniciano, in tutte le stanze della casa, splendidi scorci sul giardino mediterraneo, in una totale fusione e condivisione degli ambienti interni con la natura circostante.

L’imponente parete in pietra ricostruita, rivestita con murogeopietra® nel modello Ono Degno, definisce e valorizza la zona del soggiorno e della serra bioclimatica: un ambiente completamente vetrato, punto focale del progetto, dove avviene la graduale smaterializzazione dei volumi verso la pergola e poi la piscina.

Anche la scelta del modello Ono Degno, variegato per forme e colori, rispecchia la voglia di natura, spontaneità, ma anche di tradizione. Tradizione che viene ulteriormente messa in luce dalla scelta di completare la muratura con la finitura Over, attraverso una stuccatura volutamente generosa, capace di ricreare l’effetto rustico delle vecchie murature.

Un gioco di contrasti con le tonalità e la modernità degli arredi e degli elementi architettonici, come il tetto in legno e travi a vista in acciaio e il pavimento in rovere.

La sensazione che avvertiamo in questo moderno “fienile”, “nato come un fiore”, è che il concetto di interno ed esterno non esista. Paesaggio e architettura sono protagonisti di un perfetto equilibrio tra natura e design.
