Nestled in the vibrant city of Heraklion, the Eco House exemplifies a harmonious blend of bioclimatic design principles and cutting-edge smart home technology. This innovative residence is meticulously crafted to maximize energy efficiency, ensure sustainability, and enhance the quality of living for its occupants. At the heart of the house lies an atrium, serving as the central nucleus that orchestrates the building’s spatial organization and environmental performance.Designed with bioclimatic principles, the house is strategically oriented to harness the sun’s energy during winter while mitigating its impact in the summer months. A skylight atop the atrium floods the interior with natural light during winter, promoting a bright and airy ambiance while reducing reliance on artificial lighting. The house incorporates a sophisticated automatic shading system to regulate solar heat gain and optimize natural ventilation during summer. Concrete awnings and wooden pergolas adorn the façade and open spaces, offering effective shading solutions that complement the architectural aesthetic while enhancing thermal comfort. A distinctive feature of the house is the two-story glass volume on the southern facade, designed as a greenhouse to harness solar energy. This innovative approach not only contributes to passive heating but also integrates seamlessly with the overall design ethos of energy autonomy and sustainability.
