Set within 100 hectares of regenerated pastureland in Drummond, Victoria, the Mingela Polo Residence by FGR Architects is a poetic and practical response to land, climate, and place. Monumental yet nuanced, the design floats lightly above the volcanic landscape, with wing-like eaves and a slender, pavilion-style form attuned to prevailing winds, sun angles, and views. Anchored to the south and open to the north, east, and west, the home’s floor-to-ceiling glazing and floating concrete deck blur boundaries between interior and exterior, enhancing connection to the surrounding polo field and eucalypt-dotted terrain.

Precision detailing and robust materials—polished concrete, marble, stone, and glass—convey quiet luxury, while integrated sliding doors and floating cabinetry offer seamless spatial flexibility. Interiors are restrained in palette, but rich in texture and craftsmanship. The home’s form recalls the Australian veranda, combining privacy, shade, and breeze, and achieving remarkable solar performance. A stepped fire pit, cantilevered pool, and bronze hardware elevate the sensory and tactile experience.

More than a house, Mingela is a refined gesture of balance—between shelter and openness, structure and softness, monument and landscape. It is a sculptural residence that sits lightly yet confidently in its place, celebrating the enduring dialogue between ancient terrain and modern living.
