A young man approached us with a request to renovate his new 2-bedroom apartment in a traditional apartment building in Prague’s Vinohrady district. The aim was to create a timeless interior tailored to his lifestyle, preferences, and personality.

We took over the apartment in its original state. The existing layout was functional and well-suited to the needs of a single resident, so no major spatial changes were required. The only significant intervention took place in the bathroom and WC area, where the biggest challenge was the placement of the boiler.

The overall concept is guided by a masculine, minimalist aesthetic, contrasting contemporary elements with details referencing the historic charm of Vinohrady apartments. A grey-toned herringbone wooden floor runs throughout the space, tying the entire apartment together visually.

The layout and custom furniture reflect the client’s request for an airy feel, with special attention to proportions adapted to his taller stature. Upon entering, one is welcomed by a hallway with generous built-in storage and a concealed utility room. The doors to the bathroom and toilet are discreetly integrated into paneling made of dark-stained veneer.

The bathroom features subtle light tiling, contrasted with dark fixtures and cabinetry made from the same veneer as the hallway. A perforated metal countertop adds a refined industrial detail.
The main living space comprises a kitchen and living room, visually connected by double glass doors that maintain an open feel, yet allow for privacy when needed. The kitchen is anchored by a central stone island, above which cross-suspended LED lights form a striking sculptural element. The rear part of the kitchen is designed using semi-partitions, giving the impression of a recessed niche. A chipped stone backsplash edge adds texture, while a freestanding bar cabinet with uniquely layered veneer serves as an elegant statement piece.

In the living area, a generously sized central sofa faces a custom-built TV wall clad in dark-stained veneer and concrete plaster. A built-in desk provides a discreet home office. Near the window, a round dining table sits beneath a delicate hand-blown glass pendant by Czech glassmakers.

The bedroom, overlooking a quiet green courtyard, is visually divided into two zones. Upon entry, one passes through a darker-toned dressing area, differentiated by a lowered ceiling and contrasting color scheme. Here, dark-stained veneer is combined with deep grey lacquered cabinet fronts and fine leather pull details.

At the end of the dressing zone stands an asymmetrically cut mirror paired with perforated metal, echoed in the nearby narrow bookshelf, which subtly separates the wardrobe from the sleeping area. The bedroom features a bespoke bed, soft sheer curtains, and a sculptural pendant light, creating a calm and restful atmosphere.
