Flexibility and modularity guided this unusual transformation, aligning the needs of a cutting-edge company with the centuries-old history of the building.

Spread over 2,900 sqm, the new offices house workspaces, meeting rooms, and generous areas for socializing and hosting. The existing volume was enriched with the addition of an underground auditorium with seating for around 90, and a contemporary, domed glass greenhouse. Outside, 420 sqm of paved courtyard and garden were fully reimagined, bringing a rare breath of greenery to the dense urban fabric of central Paris.

Historic décor elements wood paneling, fireplaces, and moldings still punctuate this noble structure.

Their preservation was one of the project’s central challenges: restoring the building’s heritage authenticity while meeting modern standards and comfort expected of a workplace of this caliber. “We gave a great deal of thought to the spatial layout: how to organize the functions without compromising the volumes, especially with ceilings reaching up to 4.5 meters high; how to preserve a sense of openness between offices, meeting rooms, and shared spaces” the Studio notes.

Unifying four buildings and three centuries of history

Before Studio Vincent Eschalier’s intervention, the building's internal organization was labyrinthine.

Spanning the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries, the different wings lacked logical connections. Through meticulous demolition, restructuring, and level adjustments, the team succeeded in creating natural transitions between the building's various parts.

Heritage features were not only preserved but reimagined to serve new functions: former stables now house a bicycle room, old laundries have become restrooms, and small interior courtyards discreetly conceal technical equipment.

Tailor-made interiors, where heritage meets high-tech

As tenant, Snapchat entrusted Studio Vincent Eschalier with the complete interior design and fit-out a particularly delicate mission given the client’s specific expectations.

The challenge went beyond functionality: it was about creating a living environment where international teams could immediately feel comfortable, take ownership of the space, and find a balance between work and well-being. The Studio designed a welcoming setting that combines the best of Paris: architectural richness, cobbled courtyard, refined materials with an unexpected softness of life in the heart of the city, including a bar, tea lounge, café, and access to a park.

Bespoke furnishings were central to the project. The Studio designed all integrated furniture, paying particular attention to material selection: terrazzo and oak for workspaces, walnut for reception lounges, green marble, lime-based plaster, and brushed stainless steel for a refined finish. These custom pieces are complemented by a curated selection of furniture, lighting, rugs, and artworks.

“For each element, we sought to combine an existing detail with a reference from the Snapchat universe, to create a hybrid identity,” explain the architects.

Adapting a project already underway to a client as specific as a tech company was a real challenge.

Accustomed to expansive Californian open-plan spaces, Snapchat had to adjust to a fragmented building with many constraints.

“It was truly a meeting of two worlds. We had to integrate the client’s numerous technical requirements without ever compromising the original ceilings or decorative features” the team points out.

The auditorium and greenhouse: the beating heart of the garden

At the rear of the property, the Studio designed an auditorium topped by a glass agricultural greenhouse. These two elements restore the garden to its rightful place after years of neglect transforming it into a vibrant space for gathering and exchange.

This bold contemporary addition, situated within a site of high heritage value, required close collaboration with Paris’s urban planning department and the Architectes des Bâtiments de France.

The Studio took care to preserve the existing plant life, number each Parisian cobblestone and outdoor staircase, and reposition everything exactly as it was.

The greenhouse design draws inspiration from a traditional orangery. Architecturally, it follows a temporal logic as one moves through the plot: an 18th-century building along the street, a 19thcentury structure between courtyard and garden, and finally this contemporary greenhouseauditorium marking a journey through time.

Between tradition and risk-taking, the Vincent Eschalier architecture and design studio sculpts strong spaces, with raw language and meticulous detail. Founded in Paris in 2009, the studio stands out for the complexity and boldness of its creations. The multi-disciplinary team’s work is guided as much by high standards as by the ambition to produce timeless creations. From the interior of a private jet to contemporary apartments and customized workspaces, not forgetting the creation of  recycled aluminum door handles, Studio Vincent Eschalier’s creations cross several disciplines, the main ones being architecture, interior architecture and design.

Flessibilità e modularità hanno guidato questa trasformazione atipica, conciliando le esigenze specifiche di un’azienda ultramoderna con la storia plurisecolare dell’edificio.

Distribuiti su 2.900 m2, i nuovi spazi ospitano uffici, sale riunioni e generose aree di vita e accoglienza.

Il volume esistente è stato arricchito dalla creazione di un auditorium sotterraneo da circa 90 posti e di una serra agricola in vetro curvo, decisamente contemporanea. All’esterno, i 420 m2 di cortilelastricato e giardino sono stati completamente ripensati, portando un soffio vegetale raro nel tessutourbano denso del centro di Parigi.

Decorazioni, boiserie, camini e modanature storiche punteggiano ancora oggi questo edificio dal carattere nobile. La loro conservazione è stata una delle sfide principali del progetto: restituire l’autenticità patrimoniale rispondendo al tempo stesso alle normative contemporanee e al comfort atteso in un immobile a uso ufficio di questo livello.

«Abbiamo riflettuto a lungo sull’organizzazione spaziale: come articolare le funzioni senza compromettere i volumi, in particolare sotto soffitti alti fino a 4,50 metri; come mantenere questa sensazione di apertura tra uffici, sale riunioni e spazi conviviali», precisa lo Studio.

Ricreare un’unità tra quattro edifici e tre secoli di storia

Prima dell’intervento dello Studio Vincent Eschalier, l’organizzazione interna era labirintica. Gli edifici, risalenti al XVII, XVIII e XIX secolo, mancavano di connessioni logiche. Grazie a un paziente lavoro di svuotamento, ristrutturazione e riallineamento dei livelli, il team è riuscito a ricreare collegamenti naturali tra le diverse ali dell’edificio.

Gli elementi patrimoniali non solo sono stati conservati, ma anche reinventati per trovare nuova vita: le vecchie scuderie ospitano oggi uno spazio per le biciclette, le lavanderie sono diventate servizi igienici e i piccoli cortili interni accolgono discretamente le attrezzature tecniche dell’immobile Interni su misura, tra patrimonio e high-tech

Snapchat, locatario dell’edificio, ha affidato allo Studio Vincent Eschalier un incarico completo di architettura d’interni e allestimento, particolarmente delicato viste le esigenze specifiche del cliente.

La sfida andava oltre l’aspetto funzionale: si trattava di creare un luogo di vita in cui i team internazionali potessero sentirsi subito a proprio agio, appropriarsi degli spazi e trovare un equilibrio tra lavoro e benessere. Lo Studio ha quindi immaginato un ambiente accogliente, che combina i vantaggi di Parigi – la ricchezza patrimoniale, il cortile lastricato, i materiali nobili – a una dolcezza di vita inattesa nel pieno centro città, con bar, sala da tè, caffetteria e accesso a un parco.

Gli arredi su misura occupano un posto centrale nel progetto. Lo Studio Vincent Eschalier ha disegnato l’insieme del mobilio integrato, con particolare attenzione alla scelta dei materiali: terrazzo e rovere per le aree di lavoro, noce per i saloni di rappresentanza, marmo verde, intonaci a calce e finiture in acciaio inox per un tocco di eleganza. A questi si aggiunge una selezione raffinata di arredi, corpi illuminanti, tappeti e opere d’arte.

«Per ogni elemento, abbiamo cercato di combinare un dettaglio esistente con un riferimento all’universo di Snapchat, al fine di creare un’identità ibrida», spiegano gli architetti.

Adattare un cantiere in corso a un locatario tanto specifico come un’azienda tech ha rappresentato una vera sfida. Snapchat, abituata agli ampi open space californiani, ha dovuto adattarsi a un edificio frammentato e ricco di vincoli.

«È stato un incontro tra due mondi. Abbiamo dovuto, ad esempio, integrare numerose attrezzature tecniche indispensabili all’attività del cliente, senza mai alterare i soffitti o le decorazioni», sottolinea il team.

L’auditorium e la serra: il cuore pulsante del giardino

Sul retro dell’edificio, lo Studio ha immaginato un auditorium sormontato da una serra agricola in vetro. Questi due elementi restituiscono al giardino, a lungo trascurato, il suo ruolo centrale.

Oggi diventa un vero e proprio luogo d’incontro e scambio.

Questo intervento contemporaneo, audace in un sito ad alto valore patrimoniale, ha richiesto una stretta collaborazione con il servizio urbanistico di Parigi e gli Architetti degli edifici storici di Francia.

Lo Studio ha avuto cura di preservare le essenze vegetali esistenti, numerare ogni lastra di pavimentazione e le scale esterne per riposizionarli fedelmente.

Il disegno della serra si ispira allo spirito di un’aranciera. Si inserisce in una logica temporale in cui l’architettura accompagna il percorso all’interno del lotto: un edificio del XVIII secolo lato strada, uno del XIX tra cortile e giardino, quindi questa serra-auditorium contemporanea, che segna una progressione nel tempo.
