Casa Marea | Spread Out Studio

Located on the coast of southern Tuscany, this renovation project of a 110 sqm apartment is based on a clear spaces’ organization and a detailed study of light and color. A large living area opens onto the entrance terrace, while a corridor connects the two bathrooms and the two bedrooms. The space distribution is very defined thanks to the color choices: light shades of white and powder blue characterize the living area, while deep and darker shades of blue characterize the sleeping area, thus creating a cozy and intimate atmosphere in the bedrooms.

A distinctive feature of the project is the large infinite terrace: a true extension of the house towards the sea. This unique piece is paved with handmade tiles, arranged in parallel lines and fading from white to light and deep blue, and is finished by a mirror-polished steel slab placed on the perimeter wall. This concept allows the reflection of the colors of the floor, extending them to the horizon, and giving a feeling of continuity of the terrace into the Tyrrhenian Sea.

Inside, the living room is structured in two levels: the lower level is used for the living area, while the upper space on the rear is leveraged for the kitchen and the dining room. Here the floor, as well as the walls, are mainly white and finished with rustic plaster to remind the character of the district. The floor consists of a square ceramic carpet designed by Gio Ponti with the colors of the sea, while in the dining area the design changes, with the use of a concentric square pattern. A large custom-made storage sofa rules the living area, with a dark blue fabric reminiscent of the colors of the house, as well as blue and light blue cushions. The sofa’s base is done by Gio Ponti's ceramics, in this case with a vertical striped design. Majolica tiles are also used for the splashback in the open kitchen, which is entirely custom-made with a white Corian countertop and blue details in the grooves and baseboards. The entire living area is surrounded by niches realized in different shapes and sizes, and designed according to their function and to accommodate the owners' ornaments. The niches also feature the project's dominant blue color and are enriched by a solid oak shelf, which can remain flush with the wall or protrude externally, based on its use. The wood return in the steps and furnishing details, bringing warmth to the interiors. The hallway, entirely blue, marks the transition between the areas. The bathrooms have the same blue color flooring, and they feature one blue wall and one white tiled wall to brighten up the space. 

Both have the showers’ walls decorated by Gio Ponti’s tiles, while the master bathroom is built with a custom-made sink with a solid oak top.

In the bedrooms, the flooring’s colors alternate between the blue of the entrance and the white of the sleeping area, thus creating a chromatic transition that brightens and lightens the space.

The niches, designed in different sizes depending on their function, as well as the woven fabric curtains, contribute to creating an intimate and soft atmosphere.

Il progetto di ristrutturazione di un appartamento di 110 mq sulla costa della bassa Toscana si sviluppa attorno a una chiara organizzazione degli spazi e a un racconto di luce e colore.

Una grande zona living si apre sulla terrazza d’ingresso, mentre un disimpegno collega i due bagni e la zona notte con due camere da letto. La suddivisione è molto ben leggibile anche grazie alle scelte cromatiche: i toni chiari del bianco e dell’azzurro polvere caratterizzano la zona giorno, mentre sfumature di blu più intenso definiscono la parte privata, creando un’atmosfera raccolta e intima nella zona notte. Elemento distintivo del progetto è l'ampia terrazza perpetua, vero prolungamento della casa verso il mare.

Pavimentata con mattonelle artigianali disposte su linee parallele che sfumano dal bianco all’azzurro fino al blu profondo, è completata da una lastra di acciaio lucidata a specchio sul muretto perimetrale: un dettaglio che riflette i colori del pavimento, estendendoli idealmente fino all’orizzonte, dando una sensazione di continuità fin dentro il Tirreno. All’interno, il soggiorno si articola su due livelli: la zona giorno più bassa e, sul retro, la cucina e la sala da pranzo. Il pavimento qui è prevalentemente bianco come le pareti rifinite con un intonaco rustico a riprendere il carattere della zona. Il pavimento è composto da un tappeto quadrato di ceramiche disegnate da Gio Ponti nei colori del mare, mentre nella zona pranzo il disegno cambia, con l’utilizzo di un decoro a quadrati concentrici.

Un grande divano contenitore realizzato in opera domina la zona living, con il suo tessuto blu scuro a riprendere i colori della casa, ed i cuscini blu e azzurri. Il basamento riprende le ceramiche di Gio Ponti con un disegno a righe verticali. Maioliche usate anche per il paraschizzi della cucina a vista, realizzata interamente su misura con piano in corian bianco e dettagli blu nelle gole e nel battiscopa. Tutta la zona giorno è circondata da nicchie di diversa forma e dimensione, tutte studiate in base alla funzione e all’oggettistica dei proprietari.

Anche queste, presentano sul fondo il colore blu trainante del progetto, e sono arricchite da una mensola in rovere massello sbiancata in appoggio che può rimanere a filo del muro, o sporgere a seconda dell’utilizzo. Il legno ritorna nei gradini e nei dettagli d’arredo, portando calore agli interni.

Il disimpegno, interamente blu, segna la transizione tra gli ambienti. I bagni mantengono il pavimento dello stesso colore e presentano una parete blu ed una in mattonelle bianche ad illuminare lo spazio. Hanno entrambi la parete di fondo della doccia con decori di Gio Ponti, il padronale presenta un mobile lavabo su misura con top in massello di rovere.

Nelle camere da letto, il pavimento alterna il blu dell’ingresso al bianco della zona notte, creando una transizione cromatica che illumina e alleggerisce lo spazio. Le nicchie, progettate in diverse dimensioni a seconda della funzione, e le tende in tessuto intrecciato contribuiscono a un’atmosfera intima e morbida.
