Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park London | Uchronia
City of London / United Kingdom / 2025
The curation by Uchronia celebrates British craftsmanship and highlights the collaboration between Pantone and the Mandarin Oriental.
The concept revolves around the theme "Under the Sea," an imaginary underwater world made of layered textures and shimmering surfaces, evoking the movement of light beneath the water.
The work around the celadon green was a wonderful exercise in exploring all the possibilities offered by a color, through texture, materiality, and scale. We used many different techniques to play with this unique hue, creating depth, textural contrasts, and plays on scale and proportion. We also used a limited selection of colors to contrast with this cool tone, with orange and pink serving as counterpoints and bringing warmth to the space.
At the heart of the project is a curation of English artists who developed unique pieces around celadon blue. Each piece contributes to this imaginary underwater world. Craftsmanship, a central element in our work, is also showcased. From curtains to rugs, every element was crafted with outstanding artisans.
In this new world, everything is distorted, exaggerated, and accentuated.
