Bueno Apartment | BLOCO Arquitetos
Brasília / Brazil / 2025
Maximizing the apartment's social area and transforming it into a meeting place for family and friends was the main objective of the Bueno Apartment renovation project, designed by BLOCO Arquitetos, owned by partners Henrique Coutinho, Daniel Mangabeira, and Matheus Seco.
Located in Quadra 05 of the Octogonal Area in Brasília (Brazil), the building where the apartment is located was designed by architect Elvin Mackay Dubrugas in the 1980s. Its main features are the precast concrete facades and the perimeter structure, which leaves the floor plan free of pillars.
In this context, the original 125 m² and four bedrooms were reorganized to expand the social area and reduce the number of bedrooms to just two, adapting the space to the needs of the couple and their young son.
One of the most significant interventions was the integration of the kitchen into the dining and living room. Two of the original bedrooms were incorporated into the living room, while the son's bedroom was repositioned, ensuring greater spaciousness for the master suite.
The utility area was also relocated, a powder room was created, and two offices were designed to accommodate the couple, who work from home. The bathrooms, both the guest bathroom and the en suite bathroom, were completely reconfigured and renovated.
The first step in the project was to remove the plaster to expose the concrete slab and beams in the social area. Next, the floor finishes and wall coverings were unified, creating a continuous visual language: the same matte gray porcelain tile was used throughout the apartment, while the bathrooms and kitchen received only two variations of rectangular ceramic tile. The woodwork follows the same logic, with finishes in natural American oak veneer and white textured surfaces.
Despite the intense demolition phase, the building's structural system, free of pillars inside the apartment, facilitated the reorganization of the floor plan, allowing for the creation of large, integrated, and functional spaces, aligned with the family's routine.
