This penthouse, spanning nearly 300 square meters, was designed as a seamless fusion of openness and intimacy. Conceived by Holzrausch Studio and crafted with precision in the company’s own workshop, the interior reflects a holistic approach in which design and fabrication are inseparable. With floor-to-ceiling windows framing breathtaking views of the city and mountains, the layout needed to balance expansive sightlines with areas of retreat.

A central wooden core structures the apartment into distinct zones—living, working, and private spaces—allowing the home to remain open or enclosed as needed. A refined, tone-on-tone palette and high-end materials such as brushed stainless steel, natural stone, and warm wood create an atmosphere of calm clarity. A defining highlight is the bar in Wachenzeller Dolomit with swirl-finished stainless steel fronts, positioned to capture the most iconic views of the city.

The project revolved around transforming a developer-built apartment with standard finishes into a fully customized, high-quality residence. The total area consists of two adjoining apartments that were connected and completely reimagined by Holzrausch, including new flooring, wall finishes, a custom lighting concept, and fully redesigned bathrooms.

The main architectural challenge was structuring the generous open-plan layout while maintaining flexibility. The wooden core houses functional elements and creates a fluid circulation loop, with sliding doors that can section off areas to form private units. Sustainability played an important role: the use of durable natural materials, a thoughtful lighting concept, and a high degree of craftsmanship support longevity, reduce energy use, and preserve artisanal traditions.

The material palette includes travertine floors, Wachenzeller Dolomit washbasins, kitchen and bar surfaces, oak veneer fixtures, and Matteo Brioni plaster walls. Custom lighting by Kreon and Gira integrates seamlessly into the architecture and supports the presentation of the client’s art collection. The master bathroom sits between the two bedrooms and features sliding panels that allow natural light to penetrate deep into the space.

Loose furnishings combine selected existing pieces, new custom-made elements, and carefully curated additions such as the Living Divani sofa. Bespoke objects designed by OHA (Office Heinzelmann Ayadi) for Holzrausch—part of the Holzrausch Editions—include display cases in metal and anti-reflective glass, a stainless-steel worktable, and a travertine side table. The dining table and its luminous glass pendant were crafted in collaboration with Gustav van Treeck Studios, known for their tradition and innovation in contemporary stainedglass art. The result is a residence that embodies Holzrausch’s guiding principles: clarity in design, integrity in materials, and a deep respect for craftsmanship.
