ONDA Listening Bar | SOLUM Studio

The project stems from Onda Milano’s desire to create a versatile space—a cocktail bar with a listening room. The intervention begins with the original layout of the venue, which consisted of two separate front rooms and a back room. The starting point is the reopening of the arches between the two street-facing rooms. Clad in stainless steel, these arches connect the main spaces, enhancing both their physical and visual continuity. This connection is further reinforced by industrial neon lamps hanging from the ceiling, which traverse the arches and unify the two rooms. A dark wood boiserie, chromatically continuous with the microcement flooring, runs along the perimeter of the two spaces, integrating all the furnishings such as benches and shelves. The bar counter, made of bent and perforated steel, incorporates an integrated lighting and sound-absorbing system. The stainless steel top echoes the geometry of the arches, curving at the ends to provide access to the back bar, which is also made of poli - shed and bent stainless steel and houses the bottle display with wooden shelves. A semicircular passageway connects the bar area to the listening room, reiterating the arch motif. A curved steel door leads to the restrooms, where the walls are clad in cut polycarbonate. Above the sink, the polycarbo - nate features stripe-like cutouts reminiscent of a barcode, allowing light to filter through while also integrating mirrors. The sink, suspended on a metal grid, reflects the technical language of the dropped ceiling, which conceals the audio system and mechanical ventilation. In contrast to the bar area, where the boiserie is positioned in the lower part of the space, the listening room adopts the opposite approach to emphasize the difference between the two areas. The dark wood boiserie covers the entire upper section of the space, extending to the ceiling, where it merges with the dark suspended ceiling that houses the room’s technical equipment. This system ensures sound quality across various frequencies thanks to the sound-absorbing properties of the materials and their arrangement. The listening room is conceived as an empty space, where two key elements stand out: a circular vinyl display totem made of steel, suspended from the existing pipes, and the console, custom-built in wood, resting on a steel pedestal and accompanied by vintage Altec speakers from the 1970s. The room’s lighting is defined by a red neon light positioned behind the console, following the path of an old downspout, along with low-intensity LEDs that highlight the totem and a display niche for vinyl records.

Il progetto nasce dalla volontà di Onda Milano di creare uno spazio versatile, un cocktail bar con sala listening. L’intervento parte dall’assetto originario del locale composto da due ambienti separati sul fronte e da una sala sul retro. Il punto di partenza è la riapertura degli archi tra le due sale su strada che rivestiti in acciaio inox, mettono in comunicazione gli spazi principali e ne amplificano la continuità fisica e visiva. Il collegamento è rafforzato dalla presenza di lampade a neon industriali appese al soffitto che attraversano gli archi e uniscono le due sale. Una boiserie in legno scuro in continuità cromatica con la pavimentazione in micro cemento, corre lungo il perimetro dei due spazi integrando tutti gli arredi come panche e mensole. Realizzato in acciaio piegato e forato, il bancone incorpora un sistema integrato di illuminazione e fonoassorbenza. Il top in acciaio inox riprende le geometrie degli archi curvandosi all’estremità per accedere al retro banco anch’esso in acciaio inox lucidato e piegato che ospita la bottigliera con mensole in legno. Un passaggio semicircolare collega la zona bar alla sala listening riproponendo il linguaggio degli archi. Una porta curva in acciaio conduce ai servizi, in cui le pareti sono rivestite in policarbonato intagliato sopra al lavabo da strisce che richiamano un codice a barre che permette di filtrare la luce integrando anche gli specchi. Il lavabo, sospeso su una griglia metallica, riprende il linguaggio tecnico del controsoffitto che cela l’impianto audio e la VMC. Al contrario della zona bar, dove la boiserie è posizionata nella parte inferiore dello spazio, la sala listening adotta la soluzione opposta per sottolineare la differenza tra le due sale. La boiserie in legno scuro riveste tutta la fascia alta dello spazio e si estende fino al soffitto, integrandosi con il controsoffitto scuro che ospita l’intera dotazione tecnica della sala. Questo sistema garantisce la qualità del suono a varie frequenze grazie alla fono - assorbenza dei materiali e alla loro disposizione. La sala listening è pensata come uno spazio vuoto nel quale spiccano i due elementi principali: un totem porta vinili circolare in acciaio agganciato alle tubature esistenti e la consolle, realizzata su misura in legno che poggia su un piedistallo in acciaio ed è affiancata da casse Altec degli anni ’70. L’illuminazione della sala è definita da un neon rosso, posizionato dietro la console nel tracciato di un vecchio pluviale, e da LED a bassa intensità che evidenziano il totem e una nicchia espositiva per i vinili.
