This project is the radical yet delicate renovation of a 1970s terraced house in Brussels/Jette. Originally built by an engineer, the house possessed an unexpectedly strong and expressive structure that invited transformation rather than demolition. The design approach embraced this latent potential by stripping the building back to its raw skeleton and letting the concrete framework, its scars, and its imperfections define the new spatial identity.

Strategic openings, a new sculptural in-situ concrete staircase, and a roof intervention that introduced terraces and natural light reshaped the house into a calm, layered living environment. Materials such as concrete, clay plaster, sapeli wood, and red travertine establish a palette that is both robust and warm, allowing the house to evolve over time. Rather than imposing a new aesthetic, the project listens to what is already there…revealing, refining, and amplifying the character of the existing structure. The result is a home that feels honest, intimate, and timeless.
