Casa Conte | Messner Architects

Situated on a south-facing slope at 990 meters above sea level, above Unterinn am Ritten in Northern Italy, the property consists of a house dating from the late 1970s. This structure is undergoing an expansion.

The remaining, from local building rules permitted building volume is strategically located below the existing house, adjacent to an existing retaining wall. A wide, unobstructed view opens up, revealing a stunning panorama onto the Dolomites.

Subtly integrated into the surrounding topography, the extension is embedded within the natural terrain. In the context of the scattered, traditional farmhouses characteristic of the rural landscape, the single-story volume seamlessly follows the contour of the slope.

The main structure and its extension are interconnected below grade. The varying levels, circulation routes, and the orientation of the outdoor spaces have been designed to ensure privacy for the residents.

Following the natural slope, the single-story volume opens to the south and southeast. The newly added unit consists of a centrally located living area with an integrated kitchen, flanked by bedrooms and bathrooms.

The topographical orientation requires a precise response to solar exposure. The cantilevered ceiling provides shading for both the interior and the terrace during the summer months, preventing direct sunlight and mitigating the risk of overheating. The floor-to-ceiling glazing facing the terrace blurs the boundary between interior and exterior spaces.

Exposed concrete, natural stone masonry, and glass define the building’s external appearance. Internally, rough plaster tinted with local stone aggregates, together with the use of chestnut and oak for flooring, ceilings, doors, and built-in furnishings, contrasts with the smooth plastered walls, tiled surfaces, and monochrome furniture fronts.

Unterinn am Ritten

An einem Südhang auf 990 m ü.d.M. oberhalb der Fraktion Unterinn am Ritten befindet sich ein Haus aus den späten 1970er Jahren.

Dieses wird erweitert. Die noch zur Verfügung stehende Baumasse wird unterhalb des Hauses im Bereich der bestehenden Geländestützmauer verortet. Ein völlig freier Blick eröffnet sich auf das Panorama der Dolomiten.

Kaum einsichtig wird der Bau in die Geländemorphologie eingebettet. In der von verstreuten Gebäuden bäuerlicher Art geprägten Kulturlandschaft schmiegt sich der eingeschossige Baukörper in den Hang. Von außen nicht sichtbar, sind Bestandsgebäude und Erweiterung unterirdisch miteinander verbunden. Deren verschiedene Ebenen, die Führung der Wege und die Ausrichtung der Freibereiche sichern den Bewohnern Privatsphäre zu.

Der dem Hangverlauf folgende eingeschossige Bau öffnet sich nach Süden und Südosten. Die neue Wohneinheit verfügt über einen zentral liegenden, und seitlich von Schlaf- und Badezimmern flankierten, Wohnraum mit Küche. Diese topographisch bedingte Ausrichtung verlangt eine präzise Reaktion auf die Sonnenstände. Eine weit auskragende Decke schützt den Innenraum und die vorgelagerte Terrasse im Sommer vor direkter Besonnung und daraus resultierender Überhitzung. Die deckenhohe Verglasung zur Terrasse hin verwischt die Grenze zwischen Innen und Außen.

Sichtbetonflächen, Natursteinmauerwerk und Glas bestimmen das Erscheinungsbild nach außen hin. Im Innenraum stehen grober, mit lokalem Gesteinszuschlag eingefärbter Verputz, sowie die Holzarten Kastanie und Eiche für Böden, Decken, Türen und Einbauten den glatt verputzten Wänden, verfliesten Oberflächen und einfärbigen Möbelfronten gegenüber.

Auna di Sotto, Renon

Su un pendio esposto a sud a 990 m s.l.m., sopra il paese di Auna di Sotto sull’altipiano del Renon, si trova una casa risalente alla fine degli anni '70. Questa viene ampliata.

Il volume edificabile ancora disponibile viene situato sotto la casa, nella zona del muro di sostegno esistente. Da qui si apre una vista completamente libera sul panorama delle Dolomiti.

Adagiandosi sul pendio, la struttura a un piano, si inserisce nella topografia del terreno in modo quasi impercettibile. Il contesto, in cui si trova la nuova costruzione, è caratterizzato da edifici rurali sparsi.

L'edificio esistente e l'ampliamento sono collegati tra di loro sottoterra, non visibile dall’esterno. I diversi livelli, i collegamenti tra di loro e l'orientamento delle aree esterne garantiscono la massima intimità ai residenti.

Il volume a un piano segue l'andamento del pendio, aprendosi verso sud e sud-est. All’interno la nuova unità abitativa dispone di un soggiorno con cucina in posizione centrale, affiancato lateralmente da camere da letto e bagno.

Questo orientamento è determinato dalla topografia esistente e richiede di conseguenza una risposta precisa all’andamento del sole. Il soffitto sporgente protegge gli spazi interni e la terrazza antistante dal sole diretto e dal conseguente surriscaldamento durante l'estate. Le vetrate a tutta altezza che danno sulla terrazza fanno svanire il confine tra interno ed esterno.

L'aspetto esterno dell’edificio è caratterizzato da superfici in cemento a vista, muratura in pietra naturale e una facciata in vetro. All'interno, l'intonaco grezzo tinto di aggregati di roccia locale e il legno di castagno e quercia per pavimenti, soffitti e porte contrastano con le pareti intonacate lisce, le superfici piastrellate e i mobili in tinta unita.
