Toronjos is a retreat home guided by the qualities of its natural surroundings. Conceived with a minimal footprint and a fully sustainable approach, the house is located between two avocado orchards on a site without access to public electricity, sewage, or potable water. In response, the project proposes a self-sufficient architecture that consciously and respectfully harnesses the site’s resources.

The house unfolds on a single level and is organized into three longitudinal sections. The central strip contains the private areas—bedroom, bathroom, and dressing room—while the two lateral sections house open social spaces connected to the landscape. A sequence of short walls and generous openings allows for cross ventilation, natural light, and a continuous relationship between interior and exterior.

Built entirely with adobe and wood, Toronjos embraces local, honest, and exposed materiality. Sustainability is not an added feature but the guiding principle of the project, where architecture dissolves into vegetation, water, and earth, allowing the landscape to become the true protagonist.
