A SUSPENDED HOUSE, OPEN TO NATURE | ATELIER VICTORIA MIGLIORE

Set within a valley at the foot of a wooded hillside, the house nestles in a landscape often veiled in shade, sheltered by the slope and the trees. It is in this chiaroscuro that the idea of a rehabilitation and a suspended extension took shape: a light, open volume, connected to nature and filled with light.

The original building, a noble construction, has been entirely restored. The intervention aimed not to transform but to purify and reveal. Superfluous partitions and finishes were removed, freeing up the spaces and highlighting the original timber structure. Plaster coatings were stripped away, the shutters cleaned, revealing the texture of the stonework and the flint fragments.

This process of exposure returns to the house its primal materiality and reaffirms its anchoring in the landscape of the Vexin.

In contrast to this mineral presence, the extension adopts a complementary stance, one of lightness and luminosity. Set perpendicular to the main volume, it detaches itself from the shaded area to capture maximum sunlight. Suspended three meters above the natural ground, it engages in dialogue with the slope and surrounding vegetation.

Linked by a wooden footbridge clad in polished stainless steel, it opens toward the forest and the reflections of the sky. Its flint-aggregate concrete foundations establish a direct link with the existing materials and local resources. On this base rises a triangulated pine structure, fine, rhythmic, and light, shaping the aerial silhouette of the project.

Between anchoring and suspension, this house in the Vexin explores the relationship between shadow, light, and material, an architecture in balance, open to nature and to time.

Dans le Vexin, à Pouilly, entre ombre et lumière, la maison s’inscrit dans un vallon adossé à une colline boisée, souvent dans la pénombre abritée par la pente et les arbres.

C’est dans ce clair-obscur qu’a pris forme l’idée d’une réhabilitation et d’une extension suspendue : un volume léger, ouvert sur la nature et sur la lumière.

La bâtisse d’origine, noble construction, a été entièrement réhabilitée. L’intervention a consisté à épurer, à révéler, plutôt qu’à transformer. Les cloisons et les revêtements superflus ont disparu, libérant les volumes et mettant en valeur la charpente d’origine. Les enduits ont été ôtés, les volets décapés, restituant au bâti la texture des moellons et des éclats de silex. Ce travail de mise à nu rend à la maison sa matérialité première et son ancrage dans le paysage du Vexin.

Face à cette construction minérale, l’extension affirme une posture complémentaire : celle de la légèreté et de la lumière. Implantée perpendiculairement au corps principal, elle se détache pour s’éloigner de la zone ombragée et capter un ensoleillement maximal. Suspendue à trois mètres au-dessus du terrain naturel, elle dialogue avec la pente et la végétation environnante.

Reliée par une passerelle en bois habillée d’un bardage inox poli, elle s’ouvre sur la forêt et les reflets du ciel.

Ses fondations en béton de granulat de silex établissent un lien direct avec la matière de l’existant et les ressources locales. Sur ce socle s’élève une ossature en pin triangulée, fine et rythmée, qui compose la silhouette aérienne du projet.

Entre ancrage et suspension, cette maison du Vexin explore la relation entre ombre, lumière et matière, une architecture en équilibre, ouverte sur la nature et le temps.
