The comprehensive renovation of this 135 m² apartment, built in 1952 and located in Valencia’s Petxina neighborhood, next to the Túria Garden, stems from a young family’s desire to establish a permanent home after years of an itinerant lifestyle.

The project addresses the transformation of an excessively compartmentalized interior in which only a few original elements of value had survived. Among them, the ceiling moldings carefully preserved become the conceptual starting point of the intervention and the guiding thread of the dialogue between past and present. 

The proposal is based on a respectful attitude toward the building’s history and a commitment to sobriety and timelessness. Rather than pursuing a dominant architectural statement, the project opts for a discreet intervention that supports everyday life and allows time and personal objects to complete the domestic space. Tradition and contemporaneity thus coexist in balance through a serene, clear, and honest architecture.

The functional program is conceived with flexibility in mind, capable of adapting to the different stages of family life.

The spatial organization is articulated through three volumes of natural oak that structure the home without fragmenting it. These elements strong yet restrained organize the different uses and bring warmth to the whole, reinforced by the continuity of the same material in the flooring. The volumes dialogue with the original ceiling moldings, while the white walls enhance natural light and emphasize the contrast between the existing and the new. 

Each of these volumes takes on a specific role: the first defines the living and dining area while integrating the television support; the second, linked to the kitchen, separates the home’s entrance from the open kitchen connected to the common space; the third organizes the study area and articulates the main circulation space. 

Particular importance is given to the circulation area itself, conceived not as a residual space but as a fully habitable one. Conventional corridors are eliminated in favor of a generous and active circulation zone, capable of accommodating study, play, or everyday encounters, and fully integrated into domestic life.

The result is a bright, sober, and timeless home that respects its architectural heritage and responds to the present and future needs of its inhabitants, leaving room for the home to evolve alongside them over time.

Belleza, funcionalidad y respeto por la historia se dan la mano en la sobria reforma de una vivienda en Valencia.

La reforma integral de esta vivienda de 135 m², construida en 1952 y situada en el barrio de la Petxina de Valencia, junto al Jardín del Túria, nace del deseo de una joven familia de establecer un hogar definitivo tras años de vida itinerante.

El proyecto aborda la transformación de un interior excesivamente compartimentado en el que apenas sobrevivían algunos elementos originales de valor. Entre ellos, las molduras del techo, cuidadosamente conservadas, se convierten en el punto de partida conceptual de la intervención y en el hilo conductor del diálogo entre pasado y presente.

La propuesta se fundamenta en una actitud respetuosa hacia la historia del inmueble y en una voluntad de sobriedad y atemporalidad. Frente a una arquitectura protagonista, se opta por una intervención discreta, que acompaña la vida cotidiana y permite que el tiempo y los objetos personales completen el espacio doméstico. Tradición y contemporaneidad conviven así en equilibrio, a través de una arquitectura serena, clara y honesta.

El programa funcional se plantea de manera flexible, capaz de adaptarse a las distintas etapas de la vida familiar.

La organización espacial se articula mediante tres volúmenes de roble natural que estructuran la vivienda sin fragmentarla. Estos elementos, potentes pero contenidos, ordenan los distintos usos y aportan calidez al conjunto, reforzada por la continuidad del mismo material en el pavimento. Los volúmenes dialogan con las molduras originales del techo, mientras que los paramentos blancos potencian la luminosidad y subrayan el contraste entre lo existente y lo nuevo.

Cada uno de estos volúmenes asume un papel específico: el primero define la zona de estar y comedor integrando el soporte de la televisión; el segundo, vinculado a la cocina, separa el acceso de la vivienda de la cocina abierta al espacio común; el tercero organiza el área de estudio y articula el distribuidor general.

Especial relevancia adquiere precisamente el distribuidor, concebido no como un espacio residual, sino como un lugar habitable. Se eliminan los pasillos convencionales para transformar la circulación en un ámbito generoso y activo, capaz de acoger el estudio, el juego o el encuentro cotidiano, integrándose plenamente en la vida doméstica.

El resultado es una vivienda luminosa, sobria y atemporal, que respeta su herencia arquitectónica y responde a las necesidades presentes y futuras de sus habitantes, dejando espacio para que el hogar evolucione con ellos a lo largo del tiempo.
