Villa Mumbai | Lissoni & Partners

The private residence in Mumbai looks over the city’s Juhu Beach and was realized to accommodate three generations of one family. The project respected the volumetry of the existing architecture, redesigning the façade with the inclusion of narrow vertical openings to enable light to enter while respecting the need for privacy.

Inside, two monumental and sculptural staircases define the vertical space: sinuous geometries that appear as floating ribbons of metal and wood, linking the different floors.

The first staircase in vibrant red extends for nine meters from the ground to the first floor and is conceived to connect the various spaces dedicated to events with guests and friends, while the second staircase is black and leads from the third floor through to the sixth, connecting all the private functions of the house.

The owner’s office space is located on the second floor, accessible exclusively via the elevators. There are also two basement levels: one technical with space for the cars and the other given over to wellness and entertainment with a cinema, gym, indoor swimming pool, treatment room, hairdresser, Pilates room, jacuzzi, sauna and changing rooms.

There are six bedrooms in total, and each floor has a living area. A show kitchen for events is situated on the ground floor and the family kitchen is on the sixth floor, while each floor has been equipped with its own service kitchen. The upper floors benefit from panoramic views towards the horizon, and the sixth-floor terrace accommodates an outdoor swimming pool with a sea view.

On three sides the architecture faces inwards, while the side facing the sea is completely open to the outside. On the southern and northern sides, the voids that house the staircases at the first floor transform into internal, double-height planted courtyards which offer a visual link between the first and second floors. These courtyards serve as filters between the glazed façade and the interior, giving more intimacy and privacy to the spaces.

The interior project employs design codes that are typical of the studio: a composition of settings which communicate an understated elegance, but which are also able to surprise at the same time through the contamination of different styles from European and Eastern cultures. Contemporary design furnishings alternate with iconic pieces and modern vintage objects, in addition to custom made elements.

La residenza privata si affaccia sulla spiaggia di Mumbai nella zona denominata Juhu Beach ed è stata realizzata per accogliere tre generazioni di una sola famiglia. L’intervento ha rispettato la volumetria dell’architettura esistente ridisegnandone la facciata con l’inserimento di strette aperture verticali capaci di far entrare la luce pur consentendo la privacy.

All’interno due monumentali e scultoree scale disegnano lo spazio in verticale: geometrie spezzate che, come dei nastri autoportanti in metallo e legno, mettono in relazione i piani.

La prima scala che va dal pian terreno al primo piano si sviluppa per circa nove metri, è di colore rosso acceso ed è pensata per connettere gli spazi dedicati ad eventi con ospiti e amici. La seconda scala nera va dal terzo al sesto piano collegando le funzioni private della casa.

Al secondo piano si trova la zona ufficio del proprietario di casa da cui si accede solamente tramite gli ascensori. Ci sono poi altri due piani interrati: uno tecnico con uno spazio per le auto, l’altro dedicato al benessere e all’intrattenimento con cinema, palestra, piscina coperta, sala per i trattamenti, parrucchiere, sala pilates, jacuzzi, sauna e spogliatoi.

Sono presenti sei camere da letto e ogni piano ha una zona living. Al piano terra una show kitchen è dedicata agli eventi, mentre la cucina per la famiglia è al sesto piano, su ogni piano sono state inoltre inserite cucine di servizio. I piani più alti hanno grandi aperture verso l’orizzonte e sulla terrazza del sesto piano c’è una piscina esterna con vista mare.

Su tre lati l’architettura è chiusa verso l’interno mentre si apre completamente dal lato che affaccia sul mare. Sui lati nord e sud, i volumi vuoti che ospitano le scale al piano primo si trasformano in corti interne verdeggianti a doppia altezza che collegano visivamente il primo piano al secondo. Questi cortili hanno la funzione di fare da filtro tra la facciata vetrata e l’interno per dare maggiore intimità agli spazi.

Il progetto di interior si esprime attraverso i codici tipici dello studio che vede la composizione di ambienti che trasmettono un’eleganza silenziosa, ma capace di sorprendere al tempo stesso, attraverso la contaminazione tra stilemi europei e di altre culture. Arredi di design contemporaneo si alternano a pezzi iconici e oggetti di modernariato, oltre all’inserimento di elementi disegnati su misura.
