Chalet renovation and panoramic wellness area with infinity pool in the forests of Trentino Trento / Italy / 2024
Set within the forests of Trentino, the intervention at Pineta Nature Resort reinterprets Alpine hospitality through a contemporary architectural language rooted in tradition and landscape. The project combines the renovation of a traditional chalet with the construction of a new panoramic wellness pavilion overlooking an infinity pool, creating a dialogue between architecture, nature, and the experience of the mountain environment.
Designed by Michele Sicher, the project is guided by a careful balance between preservation and transformation. The renovation of the chalet maintains the traditional silhouette and typological features of the existing structure while introducing new volumes that clearly express a contemporary identity. The intervention transforms two terraced apartments into five suites, redefining the internal layout and spatial quality.
A new 10-meter walkway follows the natural slope of the terrain to provide barrier-free access to two of the suites. This architectural gesture finds its counterpart in the addition of five bow windows—inhabitable volumes created by extruding the window frames outward. These spatial extensions act as lenses that frame the surrounding forest and amplify the relationship between interior space and landscape.
Alongside the renovation, a new wellness building houses a panoramic relaxation room directly connected to the infinity pool, whose water surface visually merges with the Alpine horizon. Large glass openings dissolve the boundary between inside and outside, creating a continuous interaction between nature, wood, and water.
Natural materials play a central role in defining the architectural identity of the project. Larch wood cladding, allowed to age naturally over time, gives the buildings an authentic and evolving character, while corten steel volumes introduce a contemporary material layer that establishes a subtle dialogue with the traditional Alpine context.
Through careful integration of wood construction, natural materials, and energy-efficient design strategies, the project reinforces the connection between architecture and landscape, where built form becomes an extension of the surrounding forest.
