Casa BL is tucked away within an intimate and shaded courtyard in Pavia. The spaces of the eighteenth-century apartment have been rethought and carefully designed to make the most of its surfaces and heights. The living area houses a sculptural block that integrates the kitchen, staircase, and mezzanine, as well as various storage compartments. An architecture within architecture, it articulates the living space like a theatrical scene, defining its different zones: the lowered, intimate entrance and reading corner, the dining and conversation area, and the home office station, which overlooks the space below.

The definition of “space” as the delineation of a distinct and atmospheric environment plays a predominant role in the project. In the master en suite bathroom, a barrel-vaulted ceiling encloses a rigorous and elegant room where the large arched mirror accentuates the presence of the monolithic sink, which, almost like a sacred presence, dominates the center of the space. Here, as throughout the apartment, the warm tones of clays and earthen materials blend together, forming a background for the owners’ art collection. The result is an intimate and warm atmosphere that characterizes the everyday living spaces.

Casa BL si cela nascosta all’interno di un intimo e ombroso cortile pavese. Gli spazi dell’appartamento Settecentesco sono ripensati e studiati per sfruttarne al massimo superfici e altezze. Il living ospita al suo interno un blocco scultoreo che integra al suo interno cucina, scala e soppalco, oltre a svariati vani e contenitori. Una architettura nell’architettura che, come in una scena teatrale, articola lo spazio del living definendone i vari ambiti: la zona dell’ingresso e angolo lettura intima e ribassata, lo spazio pranzo conversazione e la postazione home office che dall’alto si affaccia sullo spazio sottostante.

La definizione dello “spazio” inteso come delimitazione di un ambiente connotato e atmosferico assume un ruolo predominante nel progetto. Nel bagno en suite della camera padronale dove una volta a botte chiude un ambiente rigoroso ed elegante dove il grande specchio ad arco accentua la presenza del lavello monolitico che, quasi come una presenza sacrale, campeggia al centro della stanza. Qui come in tutto l’appartamento i toni caldi delle crete e delle argille si fondono e fungono da background alla collezione d’arte dei proprietari. Ne emerge un’atmosfera intima e calda che connota gli spazi di vita quotidiana.
