The primary school project conceived for the rural areas of southern Senegal stems from the intention of creating a place for education and social activities, a structure capable of hosting not only school courses but also transversal activities, a place which in addition to being school is also community. The shape is born precisely from the idea of hospitality. A ribbon encloses all spaces: the entrance is the beginning of the metaphorical path of education, which leads to the quadrangular courtyard, the heart of the project, onto which all the main rooms overlook: classrooms, laboratories, canteen. A large roof protects and shades all the rooms, especially during the dry season dominated by the hot, dry wind. Its raised position with respect to the walls allows the path created by the walls to be read and guarantees good ventilation in the rooms. The classrooms are positioned symmetrically on the three sides of the courtyard which offers them light and a green space in which to recreate themselves while the fourth side leaves room for laboratories and various social activities.
