Light Knot Progression runs beneath the arches of the East Loggia of the Cortile d’Onore, creating a sequence of knots extending across eleven spans. Designed by BIG, the installation combines an aluminum support supporting a front-emitting LED strip to create eleven knots that progressively materialize along the arches, over a total length of 280 meters, transitioning from a simple configuration to increasingly complex interweavings. Specially designed by BIG and created by Artemide for this occasion, the luminous structure composing the installation constructs a landscape of vibrant suspended sculptures. The concept interprets continuous sign as a metaphor for evolution, visualizing the path through which ideas are born, interact, and develop. Each knot represents a phase in the creative process. As Jakob Lange, Partner and Head of BIG Products at BIG, explains: “This installation aims to capture the natural flow of growth and connection. Using a single light signature, the work represents increasingly complex configurations that evolve from simple geometries to the most elaborate ancient Chinese knots. The progression symbolizes the evolution of nature and shows how layered structures and intertwined elements can find harmony. In the spirit of Materiae, it reflects the intersection of different disciplines and thought processes.”

Light Knot Progression corre sotto le arcate del Loggiato Est del Cortile d’Onore disegnando una sequenza di nodi che si sviluppano lungo undici campate. L’installazione firmata da BIG si struttura combinando un sostegno in alluminio che regge una strip led ad emissione frontale per dare forma a undici nodi che si materializzano progressivamente lungo le arcate, in una lunghezza totale di 280 metri, passando da una configura­zione semplice a intrecci sempre più complessi. Appositamente progettata da BIG e realizzata da Artemide per questa occasione la struttura luminosa che compone l’installazione co­struisce un paesaggio di sculture vibranti sospese. Il concept interpreta il segno continuo come metafora di evoluzione, visualizzando il percorso attraverso cui le idee nascono, si relazionano e si sviluppano. Ogni nodo rappresenta una fase del processo creativo. Come spiega Jakob Lange, Partner e Head of BIG Products di BIG: “Questa installazione vuole catturare il flusso naturale di crescita e connessione. Utilizzando un unico segno di luce, l’opera rappresenta configurazioni sempre più complesse che si evolvono da geometrie semplici ai più elaborati antichi nodi cinesi. La progressione simboleggia l’evoluzione della natura e mostra come strutture stratificate ed elementi intrecciati possano trovare armonia. Nello spirito di Materiae riflette l’incontro tra discipline e pensieri diversi”.
