In the 43 m² Apartment MT, the central challenge was to expand the sense of space without fully merging the rooms — building privacy between the private and social areas. Glass, blinds, and multifunctional spaces were some of the strategies used to create a practical, functional, and timeless home, in a project signed by Zalc Arquitetura.

The few existing walls were demolished to gain floor area, the bathroom was reduced to enlarge the bedroom, and the terrace was integrated into the living space. In place of walls, a glass skin was installed between the bedroom and the kitchen, paired with a blind. This allows the resident to choose between complete separation or full integration, while a barrier always prevents the passage of cooking odors and grease.

Just inside the apartment entrance, a compact occasional home office was added. The laundry area is also cleverly concealed within the kitchen joinery. On the terrace, a dining table designed by the studio can be raised and lowered automatically via steel cables and a motor hidden in the ceiling — freeing up space for entertaining.

In the bedroom, a glass-doored wardrobe and a low-profile bed enhance the sense of spaciousness, while the use of light wood creates uniformity and warmth throughout the room.

All joinery was custom-designed for the apartment, blending ebonized wood and blue tones. Shades of gray, black, and white also dominate the project, creating an identity that is bold yet minimalist. On the ceiling, the joinery continues with recessed and concealed light fixtures integrated into a grid pattern, producing a visually striking and distinctive effect.

The folding chairs on the terrace were sourced from an antique shop and make it easy to rearrange the layout when the table is raised.

With creative solutions and elements that add a touch of home, Apartment MT is a practical and functional space that welcomes its resident with comfort and personality.
