There is a moment before the work exists when something shifts. Not yet form, not yet intention — a quiet pressure, a necessity that precedes language and often thought itself.
The Intimacy is Studiopepe’s 2026 Manifesto Project: an installation that chooses to inhabit precisely that moment, the interval between impulse and made thing, between the self and what emerges from it. The project does not approach creativity as skill or output. It holds it in its most withdrawn dimension — intimate act, interior dialogue, a form of self-knowledge that does not ask to be witnessed.
To create, here, is not to produce for the world. It is to listen to what already dwells within, to allow emergence rather than force construction. The body understands before the mind does. The unconscious works before the hand.
The installation unfolds as a sequence of thresholds — between silence and voice, matter and gesture, hesitation and form. Developed across the high-ceilinged rooms of Studiopepe’s historic Viale Abruzzi apartment, with its stucco ceilings, herringbone floors and generous windows, the space becomes a stage for interiority: each room conceived and furnished to hold the slowness, the drift, the interruption that genuine creative process carries. Works are presented not as outcomes but as traces — evidence of an interior crossing, the visible residue of what the process left behind.
What visitors encounter is not creativity celebrated, but creativity lived. The work is what remains. The process is what transforms the one who makes it.
2026 marks twenty years of Studiopepe. A cycle closes, and another begins. Viale Abruzzi reopens as a permanent PROJECT APARTMENT — a space for exhibiting work, for creative exchange, for workshops, talks and ongoing collaboration. The Intimacy is its first act.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​
The theme we will explore is that of INTIMACY as it relates to the creative process, viewed as a means of gaining deep insight. Creativity is seen as an essential life process. A behind-the-scenes look at what drives these invisible yet powerful forces.
The project is being developed in the apartment at 20 Viale Abruzzi, characterized by a series of rooms with high stuccoed ceilings, herringbone floors, and large windows, conceived and furnished to convey our vision of interior design while simultaneously exploring the theme of INTIMACY by creating a dialogue between the interior design and art, performance, sound, and scent—elements that reflect the distinctive qualities for which Studiopepe is internationally renowned.
As part of the exhibition design, the space features the photographic work of Andrea Ferrari, an interpreter of the studio’s work since its inception, whose research moves between the investigation of the archetype and the exploration of the connections between art and image. An artistic journey that proves to be akin to the studio’s sensibility, sharing the exploration of the relationship between form and space.
THE INTIMACY is brought to life through collaborations with Studiopepe’s longstanding partners, each contributing site-specific projects or special interpretations of their collections — all designed by Studiopepe — in dialogue with art, performance, sound and scent that have long defined the studio’s international practice.

ITA - “Creare significa abitare sé stessi, trasformare l’esperienza interiore in forma sensibile. L’opera è ciò che resta; il processo, invece, è ciò che trasforma chi crea.”

C’è un momento, prima che l’opera esista, in cui qualcosa si muove. Non è ancora forma è una pressione silenziosa, una necessità che precede il linguaggio e spesso anche il pensiero.
L’intimità del processo creativo è un progetto di allestimento che sceglie di abitare esattamente quel momento — lo spazio tra l’impulso e la cosa fatta, tra il sé e ciò che emerge da esso. Il progetto non indaga la creatività come competenza né come risultato. La assume nella sua dimensione più sottratta: atto intimo, dialogo con sé stessi, forma di auto-comprensione che non chiede necessariamente di essere vista.
Creare, in questa prospettiva, non è produrre per il mondo. È ascoltare ciò che già abita, lasciare emergere piuttosto che costruire. Il corpo lo sa prima della mente, l’inconscio lavora prima della mano.
L’allestimento costruisce un percorso che attraversa soglie — tra il silenzio e la voce, tra la materia e il gesto, tra l’esitazione e la forma. Gli spazi evocano il processo creativo, ne trattengono la lentezza, le derive, le interruzioni. I lavori in mostra sono presentati non come esiti ma come tracce, materia di analisi e sperimentazione che ha accompagnato lo Studio in questi anni — documenti di un attraversamento interiore di cui l’opera visibile è ciò che il processo ha lasciato dietro di sé.
Ciò che il visitatore incontra non è la creatività celebrata, ma la creatività intima. L’opera è ciò che resta. Il processo, invece, è ciò che trasforma chi crea — e che questo progetto sceglie di rendere, per una volta, pienamente presente. ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​
Il 2026 per Studiopepe è una data importante: compiamo 20 anni, si chiude un ciclo e ne inizia uno nuovo. Gli storici spazi dello Studio in Viale Abruzzi verranno ripensati come un PROJECT APARTMENT che rimarrà aperto tutto l’anno e sarà un luogo dedicato alla sperimentazione e al dialogo creativo con i nostri partner attraverso progetti speciali, incontri, talk, workshop. In occasione della MDW26 in questo spazio presentiamo THE INTIMACY, il nostro progetto che continua la serie di Progetti Manifesto che dal 2017 fino al 2023 abbiamo presentato per la MDW.
Il tema che indagheremo sarà quello dell'INTIMITÀ legata al processo creativo come strumento di conoscenza profonda. La creatività vista come necessario processo vitale. Un dietro le quinte di ciò che muove questi fili invisibili ma potenti.
Il progetto viene sviluppato nell’appartamento di viale Abruzzi 20, caratterizzato da una sequenza di stanze dagli alti soffitti a stucco, pavimenti a spina di pesce e ampie finestre, concepite e arredate per raccontare la nostra visione sull’interior design e allo stesso tempo sviluppare il tema dell'INTIMITÀ facendo dialogare il progetto di interni con l’arte, la performance, il suono, l’olfatto, che riflettono le specificità per le quali Studiopepe è conosciuto internazionalmente.
Nell’ambito del progetto di allestimento, lo spazio accoglie il lavoro fotografico di Andrea Ferrari, interprete del lavoro dello studio fin dagli inizi, la cui ricerca si muove tra l’indagine dell’archetipo e l’esplorazione delle connessioni tra arte e immagine. Un percorso artistico che si rivela affine alla sensibilità dello Studio, condividendo l’indagine sulla relazione forma e spazio.
THE INTIMACY vive grazie alla partecipazione dei nostri partner negli anni, che per l’occasione, hanno realizzato progetti site-specific oppure versioni speciali dei progetti della loro collezione, tutti disegnati da Studiopepe.
