LA Almazara | Philippe Starck
Ronda / Spain / 2025
Set against an extraordinary Mediterranean landscape, the LA Almazara Olive Oil Museum, designed by Philippe Starck, stands as a harmonious dialogue between contemporary architecture and historical memory. The project preserves the original oil mill structure, integrating traditional materials such as stone and wood with pure volumes and clean, essential lines. Expansive glazed surfaces establish a fluid relationship between interior and exterior, enhancing natural light and framing evocative views of the surrounding landscape. The exhibition spaces, fluid and dynamic, are designed to lead visitors on a sensory and cultural journey where agricultural heritage meets contemporary architectural expression.
A defining feature of the project is the large Cor-Ten steel sliding door, crafted with the MLS72 TB system, which shapes the panoramic terrace. Conceived as a mobile threshold between inside and outside, it amplifies spatial continuity and strengthens the dialogue between architecture and landscape. The floor-to-ceiling glazing frames the olive groves, transforming the terrace into a natural extension of the interior. The use of Cor-Ten steel, with its tactile, ever-changing finish, recalls the site’s industrial past while reinforcing its bond with tradition. The visual lightness of the sliding panels contrasts elegantly with their structural strength, creating a refined balance between technical precision and architectural poetry.
