LIVE EUR is a new residential building in Rome by studio IT’S, whose design was inspired by the main principles of Active House: environmental sustainability, energy efficiency and people’s comfort. 

“ Following these guidelines, the project interprets the housing typology pursuing quality and innovation. The quest of balance among the various parameters aims to create an architecture that promotes the wellbeing of its occupants with a positive impact on the environment ” - as explain the architects.

THE BUILDING

The building consists of 7 floors above ground, 12 apartments (3- 4  roomed units) as well as a penthouse; the architects’ choice of high-quality materials and construction techniques results in comfortable and highly energy-efficient interiors.

The building is powered by heat pumps and solar panels, which, as renewable sources, prevent all emissions in the atmosphere and grant the building a neutral environmental impact;domotics helps reducing energy waste by automatically regulating internal temperature, lighting, and solar screens.

COMFORT

The occupants’ comfort is further improved by other architectural solutions and notably by the orientation of the building – meant to maximize the amount of natural light and ventilation.

All flats feature openings on two opposite sides – north-west and south-east – and all internal layouts comprise a living area facing both sides. Large terraces double the flats’ surfaces; wide French windows at floor level blur the relationship between inside and outside and allow panoramic views on the surrounding landscape.

The refinement of the interiors also finds expression in the selection of fine finishings and materials - including durmast wood and Alabastrino travertine in the hall, showing a customized plissé surface designed by IT’S. 

ARCHITECTURE AND URBAN CONTEXT

The attention for the most innovative aspects of housing is combined with a concern for integrating the project into the surrounding environment. The building rises in a low-density urban area surrounded by green spaces and high-quality living standards. In line with these features, the architects chose to move the volume back from the street, leaving room for a garden.

The volume does not impose itself, rather it seeks continuity with the neighborhood buildings and panoramic view on the urban landscape. 

Realized in reinforced concrete, with a system of prefabricated, disposable formworks – the building presents a simple and clean volume as an homage to the best examples of Italian architecture from the Sixties and Seventies; the exterior is characterized by a next-generation dark ceramic coating ( Ceramica Continua®) that somehow echoes the architectural landmarks of the EUR district.

LIVE EUR è un nuovo edificio residenziale a Roma progettato dallo studio IT’S, il cui design è stato ispirato ai principi fondamentali dell’Active House: sostenibilità ambientale, efficienza energetica e comfort delle persone.

“Seguendo queste linee guida, il progetto interpreta la tipologia abitativa perseguendo qualità e innovazione. La ricerca di equilibrio tra i vari parametri mira a creare un’architettura che promuova il benessere dei suoi occupanti con un impatto positivo sull’ambiente” – spiegano gli architetti.

L’EDIFICIO
L’edificio è composto da 7 piani fuori terra, 12 appartamenti (unità da 3 e 4 locali) oltre a un attico; la scelta di materiali e tecniche costruttive di alta qualità da parte degli architetti si traduce in ambienti confortevoli e altamente efficienti dal punto di vista energetico.

L’edificio è alimentato da pompe di calore e pannelli solari che, in quanto fonti rinnovabili, evitano qualsiasi emissione in atmosfera e garantiscono un impatto ambientale neutro; la domotica contribuisce a ridurre gli sprechi energetici regolando automaticamente temperatura interna, illuminazione e schermature solari.

COMFORT
Il comfort degli occupanti è ulteriormente migliorato da altre soluzioni architettoniche e, in particolare, dall’orientamento dell’edificio, progettato per massimizzare l’apporto di luce naturale e ventilazione.

Tutti gli appartamenti presentano aperture su due lati opposti – nord-ovest e sud-est – e ogni layout interno comprende una zona living affacciata su entrambi i fronti. Ampie terrazze raddoppiano la superficie degli appartamenti; grandi porte-finestre a tutta altezza sfumano il rapporto tra interno ed esterno e consentono viste panoramiche sul paesaggio circostante.

La raffinatezza degli interni si esprime anche nella selezione di finiture e materiali pregiati, tra cui legno di rovere e travertino Alabastrino nella hall, caratterizzato da una superficie plissé personalizzata progettata da IT’S.

ARCHITETTURA E CONTESTO URBANO
L’attenzione verso gli aspetti più innovativi dell’abitare si combina con la volontà di integrare il progetto nel contesto circostante. L’edificio sorge in un’area urbana a bassa densità, immersa nel verde e caratterizzata da un’elevata qualità della vita. In linea con queste caratteristiche, gli architetti hanno scelto di arretrare il volume rispetto alla strada, lasciando spazio a un giardino.

Il volume non si impone, ma cerca piuttosto continuità con gli edifici del quartiere e con la vista panoramica sul paesaggio urbano.

Realizzato in cemento armato, con un sistema di casseri prefabbricati a perdere, l’edificio presenta un volume semplice e pulito come omaggio ai migliori esempi dell’architettura italiana degli anni Sessanta e Settanta; l’esterno è caratterizzato da un rivestimento ceramico scuro di nuova generazione (Ceramica Continua®) che richiama in qualche modo i landmark architettonici del quartiere EUR.
