Chalet Sara

Set within lush green surroundings on a sloping site at the edge of the town center, Chalet Sara opens toward the mountains that embrace the landscape, offering uninterrupted views of nature and conveying a constant sense of openness and connection with the surrounding environment. In this context of rare beauty, the project comprises three residences—one existing and two newly built—connected by a single-storey volume housing an indoor swimming pool, conceived as a space for connection, gathering, and relaxation.

The design reinterprets the compositional language of mountain architecture through a contemporary lens, reworking traditional aesthetic principles with current materials and construction solutions. The underground levels, built in reinforced concrete, accommodate garages and technical rooms, while the above-ground portions are constructed using prefabricated timber systems. This choice expresses a contemporary approach to alpine building: exposed timber, warm and inviting, evokes the atmosphere of traditional chalets, while prefabrication ensures construction precision, sustainability, and reduced on-site timelines.

Timber elements alternate with natural stone surfaces used for external paving and within the pool area, helping to integrate the buildings into the landscape and establish a dialogue with the materials of the place. Simple volumes, double-pitched roofs, and compact façades recall the proportions of vernacular architecture, while large glazed openings frame views of the landscape, allow natural light to filter inside, and transform the relationship between interior and exterior into a daily experience of connection with the environment.

Inside, the spaces unfold as warm and luminous environments characterized by natural materials, textured surfaces, and carefully detailed elements that create welcoming atmospheres, maintaining a balance between traditional roots and contemporary language. The indoor swimming pool, opening onto the landscape through expansive transparent surfaces, reflects the mountain peaks and the changing seasons, offering a sense of calm and visual continuity with the outdoors.

While ensuring autonomy for each dwelling, the three homes maintain a visual and emotional bond, offering a way of living that combines family closeness with respect for individual spaces. Chalet Sara thus stands as an intervention that renews and respects the memory of alpine construction, transforming living into an experience immersed in nature, enhancing spatial quality, and weaving together tradition, sustainability, and contemporary beauty.

Immerso in uno spazio verde rigoglioso posto su un declivio ai margini del centro cittadino, Chalet Sara si apre verso le montagne che abbracciano il paesaggio, offrendo uno sguardo continuo sulla natura e regalando un senso di apertura e connessione costante con l'ambiente circostante. In questo contesto di rara bellezza, l’intervento prevede tre abitazioni - una esistente e due appena realizzate - collegate da un corpo a un piano che ospita una piscina coperta, elemento di collegamento, incontro e relax.

Il progetto rivisita in chiave contemporanea il linguaggio compositivo delle architetture montane, reinterpretando i canoni estetici della tradizione con materiali e soluzioni costruttive attuali. I livelli interrati in calcestruzzo ospitano garage e locali tecnici, mentre le parti fuori terra sono realizzate in legno prefabbricato, una scelta che esprime un approccio contemporaneo all’edilizia montana: il legno a vista, caldo e accogliente, rievoca le atmosfere degli chalet tradizionali, mentre la prefabbricazione consente precisione esecutiva, sostenibilità e tempi ridotti in cantiere.

Gli elementi lignei si alternano a superfici in pietra naturale utilizzata per le pavimentazioni esterne e per l’area piscina, contribuendo a integrare gli edifici nel paesaggio e a dialogare con la materia del luogo. Le volumetrie semplici, le coperture a doppia falda e le facciate compatte richiamano le proporzioni delle architetture vernacolari, mentre le ampie vetrate inquadrano scorci del paesaggio, lasciano filtrare la luce naturale e trasformano la relazione tra interno ed esterno in un’esperienza quotidiana di connessione con l’ambiente.

All’interno, gli spazi si sviluppano in ambienti caldi e luminosi, caratterizzati da materiali naturali, superfici materiche e dettagli curati che creano atmosfere accoglienti, mantenendo un equilibrio tra radici tradizionali e linguaggio contemporaneo. La piscina coperta, affacciata sul paesaggio attraverso ampie superfici trasparenti, riflette le cime montane e le stagioni che scorrono, regalando un senso di quiete e continuità visiva con l’esterno.

Pur garantendo autonomia a ciascuna abitazione, le tre case mantengono un legame visivo e affettivo, offrendo un modo di abitare che unisce vicinanza familiare e rispetto degli spazi individuali. Chalet Sara si configura così come un intervento che rinnova e rispetta la memoria costruttiva alpina, trasformando l’abitare in un’esperienza immersa nella natura, valorizzando la qualità degli spazi e intrecciando tradizione, sostenibilità e bellezza contemporanea.
