The Adriatic archipelagos of Istria and Dalmatia are a collection of small, minor, and tiny islands. On many of these, accessible only by sea from nearby major islands, stand old local fishermen's houses, now restored as holiday homes and known by the evocative name of Robinson Houses. One of these, located on a small island in the Kvarner Gulf, was recently renovated by Parisotto+Formenton & Partners for a private client who has owned it for generations, as a family summer retreat.

The house is lived as a destination for conviviality, where the merry company of family and friends can be enjoyed during the warmer months. Accessible only by boat from a village on the nearby island, it has a private dock and can be walking from the shore through the garden. The view of the gulf, with its slow passage of small boats and ferries, is a delight, seen from the windows and outdoor areas. Friends passing by boat to other places in the Kvarner Gulf or the Kornati Islands stop for a convivial greeting: the house is always alive.

Every activity here requires the use of a boat: from daily shopping to the transport of equipment and materials for the construction site, everything moves by sea, dictating the rhythms and times of life and work.
The regeneration project was inspired by respect for the terrotory, the simple yet expressive aesthetic values of local architectural tradition, and the local ways and rhythms.
The original structure is a spontaneous two-story architecture with a strong Mediterranean character, a simple fisherman's house built in the post-war period. The many constraints of local regulations—such as the maintenance of window openings, use of local materials, clay tile roofs, and traditional codes in general—were transformed into design guidelines, guiding the choices, for a coherent and respectful project.

Compositionally, the various buildings retain their original volumes to create a complex, that open onto the outdoor terraces and pool, the most popular areas.
The aesthetic - simple and contemporary - combines the spontaneaus Mediterranean character with Italian and Nordic design pieces, creating a balance with an authentic mood.
In terms of materials, local stones such as Perlatino Adriatico (used in a bush-hammered and brushed finish for all exteriors), Balcan Beige for the interiors, and Porfido Marrone (flamed and brushed for the custom kitchen countertop) are harmoniously balanced with the white lime plaster and brick roofs.

Gli arcipelaghi adriatici di Istria e Dalmazia sono un ricamo di isole piccole, minori e minime.
Su molte di queste, raggiungibili solo via mare da vicine isole più grandi, sorgono vecchie case di pescatori locali, oggi recuperate come case di villeggiatura e note con l’evocativo nome di Robinson Houses. Una di queste, situata in una piccola isola del Quarnaro, è stata recentemente ristrutturata ad opera di Parisotto+Formenton & partners per un cliente privato che la possiede da generazioni, come buen retiro estivo della famiglia.

La casa è vissuta come un approdo di convivialità per godere della compagnia della famiglia e degli amici nei mesi della bella stagione: raggiungibile solo via barca da un centro più grande posto sull’isola vicina, è dotata di un molo privato e si raggiunge a piedi dalla riva attraverso il giardino. La vista sul golfo, col suo passaggio lento di piccole barche e traghetti, fa compagnia dalle finestre e dalle aree outdoor. Gli amici in transito in barca verso altre località del Quarnaro o dell’Incoronata si fermano per un saluto conviviale: la casa è sempre viva.

Ogni attività qui ha necessità dell’uso della barca: dalla spesa quotidiana al trasporto di attrezzature e materiali per il cantiere, tutto si muove via mare, dettando ritmi e tempi di vita e lavoro.
Il progetto di riqualificazione è stato improntato al rispetto del territorio, dei valori estetici - semplici ma espressivi - della tradizione locale, delle modalità e ritmi del posto.
La struttura originaria è un’architettura spontanea su due piani dal forte carattere mediterraneo, una semplice casa di pescatori edificata nel dopoguerra. I molti vincoli dei regolamenti locali - come il mantenimento delle forometrie, dei materiali del luogo, dei tetti in coppi di laterizio ed in generale dei codici tradizionali – si sono trasformati in linee guida della progettazione accompagnando le scelte, per un progetto coerente e rispettoso.

A livello compositivo, i diversi corpi mantenuti nei volumi originari creano un complesso articolato e dotato di dépendance che si apre sulle terrazze esterne e la piscina, le aree più vissute.
Il linguaggio estetico - essenziale e contemporaneo - coniuga il carattere mediterraneo intrinseco con pezzi di design italiano e nordico, creando un equilibrio dal sapore autentico.
A livello materico, pietre locali come il Perlatino Adriatico (usato in finitura bocciardata e spazzolata per tutti gli esterni), il Balcan Beige per gli interni e il Porfido Marrone (fiammato e spazzolato per il top della cucina custom), sono in equilibrio con gli intonaci a calce bianca e i tetti in laterizio.
