"Spirit, Sense, Service" - resort living is more than an arrangement of functions and spaces. It cultivates a state of being, a mode of perception, and a way of life.

Located in Haitang Bay, Sanya, Park Lane Complex Phase II is the first architectural application of line+'s research into resort living as an emerging residential type. In 2024, Peidong Zhu, co-founder and Chief Architect of line+, was invited by China Resources Land to develop a systematic approach to housing designed for longer, more participatory stays beyond the primary residence.

The project introduces S³ Resort, a design framework structured around three dimensions: SPIRIT, SENSE, and SERVICE. Together, they describe a shift from everyday routine to a sustained retreat, from instant visual stimulation to continuous perception, and from the identity of a passing visitor to that of a local dweller.

The masterplan is reorganised around the landscape of Haitang Bay. Buildings extend towards surrounding views and withdraw towards the site edges, releasing the central axis as a continuous landscape. An asymmetrical, loosely enclosed layout replaces the conventional residential grid, while extended routes and spaces without fixed programmes create opportunities for wandering, pausing, and unplanned use.

Continuous deep balconies, open interfaces, and externally positioned service cores allow light, wind, and landscape to enter the buildings. Stone-textured aluminium panels, clear glazing, and a muted palette soften the visual divide between architecture and nature. Within the dwellings, extra-deep scenario balconies, open holiday kitchens, and looped circulation support a more flexible relationship between domestic life, social activity, work, and leisure.

Planting, water, shade structures, and naturally ventilated shared spaces form an integrated system of environmental moderation. Architecture becomes a climatic mediator rather than an isolated object, allowing resort living to emerge through the continuous interaction of body, space, and landscape.
