Villa WATCHTOWER | ARK Architects

Located at one of the highest points of La Reserva de Sotogrande, Watchtower is a contemporary residence designed by Manuel Ruiz Moriche and ARK Architects. Conceived as an architectural observatory, the villa establishes a subtle relationship with its natural surroundings, framing panoramic views of the Mediterranean Sea and the rolling Andalusian landscape while responding to the site's topography and orientation.
The project is based on the idea of continuity between architecture and nature. Interior and exterior spaces are carefully integrated through expansive glazing, generous terraces, landscaped courtyards and a restrained material palette of natural stone, timber and water. Rather than creating clear boundaries, the design promotes a fluid spatial experience where living areas extend seamlessly into the landscape.
The villa is organized around a sequence of open and enclosed spaces that maximize natural light, cross ventilation and visual connections. At its centre, landscaped patios introduce daylight and vegetation into the heart of the home, creating moments of privacy while reinforcing the relationship between architecture and climate. Double-height interiors enhance the sense of openness, while carefully positioned overhangs and vertical screens provide solar protection and privacy without compromising the views.
A dramatic infinity pool extends towards the horizon, reinforcing the visual connection with the surrounding landscape and becoming an integral element of the architectural composition. Every space has been precisely oriented to capture changing light conditions throughout the day, allowing the architecture to respond naturally to its environment.
Designed around wellbeing, Watchtower combines spatial clarity, refined detailing and timeless materiality to create a calm and immersive living experience. The result is a residence where architecture is defined not by excess, but by proportion, light and the seamless integration of landscape, space and everyday life.
