Between Tides | IN-Xian Design
A Residential Space Shaped by Light, Air and Materiality Taipei / Taiwan / 2026
We do not seek to depict nature, but to let light, air, and materiality become the means through which nature is experienced within the space.
Inspired by rock, tides, and the refraction of light, the design transforms natural elements into a spatial language. Mineral plaster, wood-fiber ceilings, stone, and metal retain their authentic character, while light and time reveal subtle layers of texture.
Inspired by Konpeki (紺碧), the central volume organizes the communal area, allowing movement, sightlines, and light to unfold naturally around it. Curved forms, negative space, and diffused light connect the spaces through the gentle rhythm of the tides.
Over time, the copper surface develops a natural patina, recording traces of everyday life. Through the interaction of light, air, materials, and human activity, the space continuously evolves, allowing the home to grow naturally with time.
