At Dynaudio’s flagship in Copenhagen, listening becomes a way of inhabiting space. Sound enters into dialogue with tactile materials, softened light and the considered proportions of crafted furniture, shaping an atmosphere that invites both attention and ease. A sequence of intimate settings gives room to music and the small rituals that surround it, allowing familiar sounds to be heard anew.

In the heart of Copenhagen, Dynaudio’s first permanent European flagship unfolds as a place to pause and listen. Set within an existing building on Møntergade, the interior brings sound into close conversation with architecture, material and the small rituals of everyday life. Placing a record on a turntable, pouring coffee or settling into a chair becomes part of the experience – an invitation to give music time and attention.

The building itself offered a starting point. Behind its handcrafted façade, an exposed framework of concrete and steel carries a robust, industrial character. These qualities remain visible, softened by oak, cork, plaster and textiles. Throughout the interior, precise detailing meets tactile surfaces, expressing a shared affinity between Dynaudio’s engineering and Norm Architects' approach to space: an attention to function and human experience, where complexity is resolved into something that feels natural to use.

Across the ground floor, lower level and mezzanine, the project moves through distinct atmospheres.

The foyer opens into a listening lounge, where furniture and audio equipment sit within a welcoming, domestic setting. A sculptural staircase in smoked oak connects the levels, its staggered handrail introducing a measured rhythm through the space. Below, intimate niches give coffee, vinyl and tea their own architectural setting. Each offers a moment to linger before the sequence leads into a small, acoustically isolated room dedicated to cinematic sound and attentive listening. Above, the mezzanine takes on a quieter character as a library and office, connected to the rooms below through open views.

Materiality shapes both the atmosphere and the way sound inhabits the building. Surfaces are chosen for how they feel, catch the light and respond acoustically, bringing warmth and clarity to each setting. Soft layers temper the robust structure, creating a sense of enclosure while preserving the visual connections between spaces. Together, they form an environment where acoustic care is woven into the architecture.

Here, listening extends beyond the ear: it is felt in the body, in the stillness of a room and in the subtle response of the materials around it. The technical care behind it is expressed through the ease of inhabiting the space – the comfort of a seat, the texture beneath a hand, the clarity of music filling a room. Architecture creates the conditions for attention, allowing listening to become a slower, more absorbing encounter.

Karimoku Press release

Opened on June 9, 2026, at Møntergade 19, the showroom unfolds across three levels. At the center of the building, a sculptural staircase finished in deep-toned oak moves through the showroom, introducing warmth and tactility while guiding visitors between distinct atmospheres shaped for listening, gathering, and reflection. Throughout every detail of the space, a shared devotion to precision and harmony comes alive. In the same way Dynaudio refines sound through engineering, Karimoku Case works wood with equal care and discipline: each surface considered, each element attuned. Dynaudio Lounge stands as an environment embodying the two brands’ shared language of craft, where audio, architecture, furniture, and materiality come together as a single experience. Designed specifically for this setting, Karimoku Case introduces a series of new furniture pieces. In addition to a selection from the existing Karimoku Case collection, Karimoku Furniture manufactured bespoke pieces — including a sofa, coffee table, and stool — designed by Norm Architects specifically for this space. Born from this space, these new pieces will join the Karimoku Case permanent collection, with a sequential release planned from Winter 2026. Dynaudio Lounge unfolds as a space where the three core values of serene beauty, material richness, and timeless appeal are brought to life in their fullest form. Karimoku Case furniture is integrated throughout the showroom, including three new pieces designed by Norm Architects specifically for the setting, thoughtfully arranged in harmony with the space. On the ground floor, the space unfolds as a lounge area defined by the new sofa and coffee table. Here, the generous proportions of the sofa lend a sense of calm, while the linear coffee table at the centre introduces a subtle tension — creating a space where comfort and focus find balance. On the basement level, the new stools in Smoked Oak stand alongside a cork center table by Corkinho. The tactile softness of cork meets the solid presence of wood, establishing a subtle contrast between the deeper furniture tones and the light-toned interior surfaces. Developed in close relation to the architecture, the furniture supports the spatial rhythm of the project, creating places to sit, listen, meet, and pause. Each piece becomes part of the overall composition, contributing to an atmosphere where comfort, proportion, and material presence are closely connected. Throughout the space, Dynaudio’s sound system Opus One — featuring handcrafted wooden fins made by Karimoku Furniture — is seamlessly integrated. Here, music is not background. It becomes the structure of the moment – because when sound is rendered with focus and discipline, it no longer sits apart from the room. It expands and integrates, revealing texture and dimension, stillness and intensity. And as it does, something loosens — the boundary between listener and space dissolves, and you find yourself not simply hearing the music, but inhabiting it.
