Worrell Yeung
Worrell Yeung is an architecture and design studio based in Brooklyn, New York. Founded in 2014 by Max Worrell and Jejon Yeung, our practice excels at synthesizing complex systems and needs into clear conceptual solutions that are precise and considered. Working across several scales and typologies—from adaptive reuse and public space to ground-up residential and cultural spaces—we approach every project as an opportunity to create work that is adaptable to the present climate, focused on function, and enduring.
We make work that appears simple and unembellished but is rooted in a rigorous design and analysis process that spans from concept to realization. Importantly, we strive for aesthetic minimalism in order to achieve functional richness and complexity—not just at the level of detail and materiality, but also in overall space planning and programming.
Our studio approaches the creative process and the construction process with equal importance. We apply a deep knowledge of construction and detailing to projects characterized by an innovative, unexpected use of natural materials. This is paired with an effort to maintain and revive analogue means of making, finishing, and working with artisans and traditional techniques. Collaboration and commitment to the local community is essential to our process.
We strive to create architecture that makes life better for people and positively transforms the experiences of its users and the wider community. Embracing change and supporting progressive cultural shifts, we allow them to fuel creativity and inform every project we take on. We acknowledge that nothing is static—from community needs to materials succumbing to decay—and design to accommodate for future iterations and use, encouraging building longevity. Our work embodies a simple, poetic pragmatism that encourages discovery and wonder at multiple scales.
Worrell Yeung is a certified Minority-owned Business Enterprise. Our team is a diverse group of employees and collaborators including: Beatriz de Uña Bóveda, Yunchao Le, Cohen Hudson, Bryan Cordova, Joy Mullappally, and Jean Lin (Colony).
