Atheleia Arquitectura

ATHELEIA ARQUITECTURA is a creative architecture studio located in Peralada and Olot, Spain, specializing in both new construction and renovation projects. The studio is defined by an architecture that is integrated into the landscape, contemporary, and sustainable. Their approach is to create an atmosphere in harmony with the space and its users, addressing the deepest aspects of comfort. They seek the essence, to feel the space—a sensory experience that provides the feeling of being exactly where you want to be, in a home with soul and beauty. Among their works are primarily residential projects, such as the MM House in La Garrotxa and the renovation of a village house in Empordà, as well as public works projects like the urbanization of Barceloneta Square in the historic center of Peralada and the reorganization of the parking and picnic area at Can Serra in the Natural Park of the Garrotxa Volcanic Zone. The studio's main distinctions include the 2019 Excellence in Architecture Award from Alto Standing magazine, the Ex Aequo Mention for Residential Architecture at the 23rd Girona Architecture Awards in 2020 for the project "A Village House," the selection of the MM House for the Best International Houses exhibition organized by Casa Platform magazine during the 2021 Venice Architecture Biennale, and mentions such as Archilovers Project of the Year 2020 and ArchDaily's 2021 Building of the Year Awards Nominee Project for the MM House.

Studio

Salvador Tarradas Fossoul (Barcelona, 1983) is an architect who graduated from the Technical School of Architecture of Barcelona (ETSAB) at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia. He is also the co-founder of the Atheleia Arquitectura studio. In 2001, he was awarded First Prize by the University of Girona for his research work titled "Urban Study of Municipal Lands in Peralada." During his architectural studies, he participated in the 2006-07 academic year in the Erasmus program at the Atelier Peter Zumthor (Pritzker Prize 2009) at the Academy of Architecture in Mendrisio, Switzerland. In 2007, he joined the RCR Arquitectes studio (Pritzker Prize 2017), where he collaborated for nine years on various competitions, such as the Musée Soulages in Rodez, and projects like La Carpa at Les Cols Restaurant and the Mediateca in Ghent, Belgium. In addition to his professional work, he contributed to the development of the RCR LAB•A International Summer Workshop, where he served as an academic coordinator from 2012 to 2015. He also worked as an assistant professor for the Summer Studio in Olot, taught by the University of Western Australia, in 2015 and 2016.

Borja Fernández Rodríguez (O Barco de Valdeorras, 1983) is an architect who graduated from the Technical School of Architecture of Coruña (ETSAC) and holds a Master's degree in "Urban Renewal and Rehabilitation" from the University of Santiago de Compostela and the University of Coruña (UDC). He is also the co-founder of the Atheleia Arquitectura studio. He was a finalist in the Pasajes-Iguzzini 2009/11 competition and received an Honorable Mention in the Pry3cta-2010 competition, both awards recognizing the best final project in Spain, a project completed with the guidance of Francisco Aires Mateus and Carlos Quintáns. In 2008, he was awarded an Accésit alongside Diego Calderón in the international student competition held as part of the VI Ibero-American Architecture Biennial. During his architectural studies, he participated in the 2006-07 academic year in the Erasmus program at the Atelier Peter Zumthor (Pritzker Prize 2019) at the Academy of Architecture in Mendrisio, Switzerland. From 2007 to 2009, he was part of the Aires Mateus studio (Lisbon). In 2012, he joined the RCR Arquitectes studio (Pritzker Prize 2017), where he collaborated for nine years on various competitions, such as the Nou Camp Nou for FC Barcelona and Olympicopolis in London, as well as projects like Parc de la Sagrera in Barcelona in collaboration with Alday-Jover and West 8, Muraba Apartments in Dubai, the IST walkway in Austria, and the CMU Stadium in Taiwan, among others.
