VF-Lightspan invented systems and products known under the name Texlon®, a leading brand in building envelopes that has been on the market for over four decades.
Texlon® systems are made of thin ETFE (Ethylene Tetra-Fluoro-Ethylene) sheets, supported by cladding systems mounted on the building's structural frames.
Texlon® systems are typically constructed with multiple sheets overlapping to form "cushions" that are inflated under pressure. The number and thickness of the ETFE sheets and the inflation pressures of the cushions are determined by Lightspan engineers to meet the project's performance requirements. Single-layer ETFE systems can also be designed. The ETFE sheets can also be reinforced with stainless steel cables to enhance structural characteristics.
The geometry, dimensions, and arrangement of the cushions are designed to provide a smooth, draining surface, optimizing costs, preventing water stagnation, and offering excellent weather resistance, thanks also to a secondary drainage system.
Texlon® system characteristics:
- Lightweight (approximately 4 kg/m2)
- UV transparent
- Sound transparent
- U-values = 1.1-1.7 W/m²K
- ETFE sheets can be printed with various patterns for optimal solar control
- Fire classification B-s1, d0.
VF-Lightspan was formed in 2025 from the merger with BEMO, maintaining the renowned expertise of the former Vector Foiltec team. VF-Lightspan operates high-capacity production facilities in Germany. We have the most comprehensive collection of ETFE research data in the world. This expertise drives continuous innovation and strengthens our role as a technology leader in the industry.
