An elegant, homely and functional office-refuge on the sea of Barcelona Barcelona / 2024

An office that doesn't look like an office, but that has everything one could need in an office. This request was the starting point of this project.

The frame could not be better: an apartment in the Antares Building, recovered from abandonment by Odile Decq in 2015. A distinguished building of 30 floors, in front of the Forum of Barcelona, by the sea and with a privileged view over it, in addition to a private spa and a rooftop pool.

The client wanted a refuge to escape from the daily chaos to meet and be inspired, for that part of working life that requires loneliness, calm and concentration. To adapt it to their needs, we made slight modifications in the distribution, reducing the kitchen and turned it into an office, and the second bedroom into another office space.

To create the right atmosphere, the 1960s was the source of inspiration, with two very different references:
"I wanted to recreate the atmosphere of the offices of the Mad Men series - a series about advertisers on Madison Avenue that is in itself a mid-century jewel - and mix it with that air of melancholic refuge in front of the sea, like the cabin -Le Cabanon- by Le Corbusier or the house of Eileen Gray - the famous E-1027-"

To do this, we covered the walls with a cherry wood panel that directs the view towards the sea and controls the entry of light. On the floor, a trencadís of marble pieces that "evokes the holiday homes of the Mediterranean." Most of the furniture - in Mukali wood with brass details - has been tailor-made for the project, to adapt to those office needs without looking like it: a multifunctional table, a sideboard with mobile office containers, the office kitchen and a bookcase that is complemented by a second table with sea views.

The high-gloss lacquered surfaces at the headboard and on the wall shelf provide a distinctive touch and reinforce that sixties aesthetic.

The pieces that complement these base furniture have been carefully selected under a common denominator: that they are timeless classics. The aesthetic codes of the Barcelona furniture house Tresserra were another source of inspiration.
