CoutanStudio Architects works between the Upper Susa Valley, the surrounding valleys and Turin, where a direct knowledge of the territory meets a contemporary design approach. The practice operates between architecture and landscape, exploring the relationship between built form, open space and the alpine context. Tradition and modernity become design material: local materials, construction techniques and proportions are reinterpreted without resorting to imitative languages. Timber from short supply chains is part of an approach that prioritizes coherence with place over labels. Each intervention grows out of a close reading of the site and a dialogue with its context, aiming to create essential, durable spaces capable of activating relationships between people, environment and territory.
